I’ll set the bar fairly for LSU football in 2018

“Tiger Ree, get the hell out of here.”

5-3 in the SEC. Have to beat the teams with new HCs. I’m handing out passes for losing to Bama and UGA at home only because this is a new OC/QB/RB/WRs. There is talent in everyone of those positions, which is why they should win the other 5 SEC games. Auburn and UGA are winnable games and LSU must compete. Bama may be a monster with Tua but LSU must compete. I am handing out one final pass if the MOV gets to double digits but stays at or under 14.

LSU must beat Miami and it’s bowl opponent to finish 10-3. Wins against UA, UGA or AU may be substituted for close losses against UM or a top 10 bowl opponent.

LSU must finish with no more than 3 losses and go into next year with momentum as a concensus preseason top 12 team or the season was not successful. That is the bar for 2018, no exceptions or excuses will be accepted.

Fair would be 10+ wins and in the hunt for the conference championship and playoff. We supposedly hired Ed Orgeron instead of a real candidate for the sake of continuity, so the rebuild excuses are especially worthless.

Does the team know, yet?

I’m sure they would be interested to know they can those weeks off.

I'll be surprised if we do any better than 8-4 to be honest, really surprised.

I think this is pretty fair - should we stumble - say lose a highly competitive squeaker to the U, 24 - 21 or something like that (could go either way), but then (it must be considered a) steal against Bama or UGA would even that out. I don't consider beating Auburn a "steal", but neither do I for Florida at this point.

But, we're going to be in 6 extraordinarly difficult SEC games and 2 against tough opponents whom we shouldn't take for granted. Or, as we like to call it, "football season."

ETA: If we go 5-3 in conference and lose either Miami OR the Bowl game (or any mid-major or rent-a-win OOC game) should heat up the seat for O to make 2019 a make-or-break.

Under these conditions, 10 wins is a par. 11 wins might warrant an extension (and suggest the needle is moving). 9 wins is what got Miles fired.

Fair is fair.

Letting UGA and Bama come in to BR and win isn't going to sit well with me.

If you look at UGA and Bama's schedule, they'll both be undefeated coming to TS. Winning one of those would be huge for the program and it's exactly what O needs to recruit on.

The expectations for the program do not change because we hired a head coach who's supporters believe he cant meet them. The expectations don't become what a "good job" is for that particular coach. You either meet the programs expectations or you leave.

Way too high for “expectations”.
There could be some surprises and things can go better than expected. 7 wins total is very realistic. I believe that is the current “Vegas” number.

So let me get this straight? LSU fires it's coach who averaged ~9 wins a season because, in large part, he was failing to win SEC West/SEC Championships and beat the biggest challenger in the conf., Alabama, (for whatever reason -- refusal to change offense, coaches, "weaker" recruiting, etc) ONLY to then hire the DL coach from the staff that was apparently underachieving, who then, in turn, names the TE coach from the underachieving staff as OC, and now the acceptable "bar" is that it's ok to lose (AT HOME) to the top teams in the league?

What the frick did LSU fire Les Miles for if the current "bar" is now basically the exact same level of success Miles was achieving when he was fired?

I'm not saying LSU should fire Ogeron after the 2018 season if he doesn't win the West or SEC, but I can't understand why he has a lower "bar" for success than the guy he was hired to replace and, ostensibly, improve upon?

There is nothing wrong with this statement. Anyone who thinks so is delusional. We are all sunshine pumpers to a degree. But there's got to be a degree of realism and common sense. Anything more than this would be an incredibly successful year compared to our last 3-4 years.

I'm going with 11-1, West Title and rematch with UGA in SEC. 13-1 after SEC championship game, birth in playoff. Round 1 match up against OSU. Sorry ED, I don't have patience and know you have a team loaded with talent, this aint no rebuild! PRODUCE SON!!!

5-3 in the SEC.

This is spot on. Bama, UGA, and Auburn will be tough to beat and I will say we lose all three. The rest of the SEC on schedule does not have the talent to match LSU and LSU should beat them.

"I hope we only win 4 games so we can fire O immediately..." - Average LSU fan who watches every game on TV and hasn't been to Tiger Stadium in 7 years.

Sounds about right. Some people complaining that you acknowledge losses at home to Bama and UGA... they're missing the point.

If we lose close games to Bama, UGA and Auburn, and win the rest, that puts us somewhere around #10 or so (considering the level of competition). Anything less is a disappointment, anything more is to be considered a good season.
