This. They establish a tight time deadline of a handful of hours to accomplish a task, but to do that they have to fly to a planet, find someone they don't know that doesn't know they are looking for them on that planet, then fly back to start the task. Such unrealistic parameters really just killed any ability to suspend belief for me.

Adding onto this, TLJ was filled with these "matter of luck" moments.

It all started at the beginning with Rose's sister being able to kick the bomb controller off the ledge at the very last second.

A couple of these scenes are fine, but when they're littered throughout the movie it starts to feel like the rebels have no skills snd just survive on luck.

I don’t get the hate for TFA. I watched it the other day and it holds up and is 10x better than TLJ

Watch if without TLJ in mind and it's not that great.

We go from universal peace in 6 to armageddon in 7 with no explanation.

And Kylo's face just makes me ill.

The opening prank call exchange was bad, but it lost me at the WWII style bombing run in space.

And then Leia in space put it even further over the top.

The opening prank call was awful. That was probably the start of it losing me.

Completely lost me when Luke tosses the lightsaber.

For me it was the Mary Poppins scene that was recreated.

Exactly. TLJ is the best thing that ever happened to pos TFA.

That was the last Star Wars movie I paid to see. I don't even feel like streaming Solo.

Fwiw, I went into Solo expecting it to be complete shite, and I enjoyed it way more than TFA and TLJ.

Solo and Rogue One were way better in comparison than both.

Everything wrong with TLJ

(And somehow they actually went light on this)

EDIT: "God damnit, I have pinpointed the moment when I gave up on modern Star Wars movies, and it was the fuel, the fricking fuel!"

TLJ sucked. There’s no getting around that. Worst of all it was mostly BORING and it wasted Luke Freakin’ Skywalker, buuut... there were some things most of y’all hated that I was OK with:

1. Opening Poe/Hux prank call scene. I know it gets hate, but that was funny and unexpected. And it served a purpose plot-wise to stall for time. And it allowed Poe to act a little Solo-ish. I’m gonna alllow it.

2. Killing off Snoke. Snoke was JJ Abrams biggest mistake. There was no backstory that would have been cool enough. Either we’d never heard of him or he was someone stupid like Jar Jar or Mace Windu. I’m ok with RJ just wiping the slate clean for my man Kylo.

3. Kylo Ren. I don’t get the hate. Watch TLJ again - just about the only times the movie gets interesting are when he’s on the screen. With Snoke gone, he can be a true badass in the next one (with Force Ghost Luke heckling him the whole time - you know that’s happening).

When the movie lost me? In stages:
1. “Bombing run” in space. Sigh.
2. Green titty milk. Gratuitous and offensive to my memories of Luke Freakin’ Skywalker.
3. Leia’s Mary Poppins ya’ll routine. If she’d immediately generated a “force shield” or something, then maaaybe. But that bitch was dead and frozen. And frick RJ for taking Ackbar out like a bitch.
4. Casino subplot. Pointless. I’ve got no issue with Rose as a character, actually, but the whole subplot she existed for was stupid and boring. Taking yet another shot at rich people was tedious as well.
5. Luke’s backstory with young Kylo. Not buying for a second that he even thought of killing a kid while sleeping.
6. The entire Resistance plan. Whaa? We’re gonna all go hide in a hole with a big door? That’s it?
7. Luke force projecting to another planet. Where the frick did that skill come from? Are you kidding me? Another planet?!? Ridiculous, never should have made it past a script proofread. If you want to kill Luke, fine, let him friggin’ go there and die like Obi Wan. What’s the point of projecting there if you’re gonna die anyway?

The more I think about it, the more I could’ve looked past most of this movie’s flaws if they hadn’t treated Luke like shite. RJ made him into an grumpy a-hole, then killed him with the stupidest death since the Sarlaac Pit. They had a golden opportunity to have fun with a great character, played by an actor who looked great for the part (unlike a certain princess, may she RIP), even though we’ve barely seen him for 30 years. What makes me sick is the wasted opportunity. I’m counting on JJ to salvage something from Luke, at least as a force ghost.

I've heard Solo wasn't bad, but I just don't have any interest in it. I'll stream it one day. R1 was boring, which is an accomplishment for a Star Wars movie.

Isn't it amazing how a group that basically fled to the Unknown Regions managed to make more impressive things than the Empire (which ruled the great majority of the galaxy) in just 30 years?

I mean just look at the Death Star compared to Starkiller Base:

And let's not forget Snoke's ship:

I'm really questioning how the New Republic didn't know about the First Order and if they did, why they didn't view them as a threat.

No, no, my friend. The first rule of “What happened to the restored Galactic Republic?” is we must never talk about what happened to the restored Galactic Republic.
