We didn't have car seats, or even seat belts, in the 60's. Most of us turned out OK. I can remember riding across the bridge between Natchez, and Vidalia, in the back of a pick up. You'd probably go to jail for letting a dog do that today.
This soft society just sucks us dry of everything manly.
Agree. This chart makes me sick at how pussified we've become. I remember when getting your child somewhere safely really meant something.

You know the crazy thing about car seats is that cars already come with them. Unless you’re a baby, you don’t need to be sitting in an additional, supplementary car seat.
Easily one of the dumbest things I have read on the OT and that is saying a lot.

The argument that I always had with my wife when our kids were little was “how does a car seat expire?”
Posted on 7/10/18 at 6:55 pm to Pecker
When my daughter was in 6th grade(11ish) she had two friends that were still in car seats. They were embarrassed to be dropped off and picked up because instead of just hopping in the car and getting the belt buckled, mom would have to jump out and get the buckle done.

There is no actual evidence that a booster seat (rear or forward facing) provides any more protection than the normal safety belt.
Once the child reaches 30" a regular safety belt is just as effective.
(There is some evidence showing that the child is more at risk)

My 7 yr old is still in a car seat. It’s safe and he fits so why not. Plus I’m too lazy to figure out how to remove it.
Is this a joke?

You know what happened after car seats became mandatory? The number of babies that cooked to death because their dopey parents forogot about them skyrocketed.

My 6 year old is in a booster because the Filipino in him is taking over. Little frick.

In all honesty, the car seats for older toddlers look very similar to the seats that NASCAR drivers have in their cars.
That’s the first thing I noticed when we transitioned our 4 year old to a new seat.
If it’s safe enough to keep NASCAR drivers safe following a 190 mph crash. I’ll put Junior in this version as his mom travels 75-80 in the family SUV.
Personally, i wouldn’t mind a “NASCAR” like seat option for the regular seats. Why not? Have you seen how people drive?

Those two kids in the car seats are hilarious. Quality parenting there.

Did you know that carseats supposedly expire in 2-3 years?
My wife wanted to buy a new seat for our youngest and I said what's wrong with the old one (three years old)?
"It's expired"
Either your wife is lying or you bought an old car seat. They do expire but it’s more like 6 or 7 years.

I have a spare car seat to pick up my 7 year old nephew in case of an emergency

It's hard plastic and metal, not milk
They do expire though. Longer than 3 years though.
And it is because the plastic can warp and/or weaken over time. After all....it’s sitting in a hot car all the time. It can warp and weaken....not providing the proper support it needs to.
Also....any car seat involved in an accident automatically needs to be replaced.
The booster seats for older kids are due to their height and weight. Younger kids need the booster seat so the seat belt goes over their body at the right spots.
Improperly placed seatbelt over a kid can kill or seriously injure them in a car accident.
Cared for a child that decided to place the shoulder strap behind her, so only the lap belt was over her. They got in a car accident less than 5 miles from their house. Her having the shoulder belt behind her caused all the force to be on the lap belt.....cutting into her abdomen and causing serious damage(including spinal damage). She is paralyzed now.

Mine has Kevlar on 3 sides (helpful if visiting NOLA).

Yeah yeah yeah, I'll take my chances. My kids are tough, just like their old man.

Ok. But you can easily buy a new car seat for $50.
Wouldn’t you say your child’s safety is worth $50?

I guess I should have just put that baw in a seat belt
It would decapitate a ducking kid that is 30”
