I guess you better not say that to my father, because he picked tons of cotton as a white child.

Not a racist turn of phrase. Never has been.

Good grief.

I picked cotton as a young one in Shreveport. Not yet out of my cotton-pickin' mind.

The article mentions “Trump” about 10 times before it even gets to what actually happened.

OK you cotton picker you. You win the award for being the Biggest Cotton Picker on the board!

(looks to me like you already offended about 12 acres and are about to offend another 78 acres or so)

Where did he call a black man a cotton picker?

It’s okay. You don’t have to fricking lie. You’re out your cotton picking mind if you think he called that man a cotton picker.

Payne appeared taken aback and said "lemme tell you something. I've got some relatives that picked cotton and I'm not going to sit here and allow you to attack me like that."

Should’ve said “Mr. Payne, you’re being a hypersensitive drama queen. Sorry, but I’m just calling a spade a spade.”

Jesus fricking Christ this is stupid.

It isn't "sensitive" to point out abject stupidity.

You should look up the origin of the phrase. Your ignorance doesn't change a thing. In fact, your assumptions despite a lack of actual knowledge of the origins shows you are being kind of racist. Sad.

it's strange how republicans are still doing the "i didn't use the hard R so it's okay" and ignoring the only thing that really matters.. context.

"you are out of your cotton picking mind" and "you are out of your cotton pickin' mind" are the same fricking thing when said to a black guy who doesn't actually pick cotton. this isn't hard.. fox news fricked up, apologized, and we are all moving on except the people who feel the strange urge to defend the MSM

reminds me of the porch monkey scene from clerks

The fact is he would have used the same phrase no matter what color the person he was talking to was. Some people might view it as an offensive phrase and that's why Fox apologized, but it's just a phrase that lots of people use without any racist intentions.
