I was a student at that time. Here's what I remember: LSU takes the opening kickoff and has about a 7 minute drive and scores a TD. LSU kicks off and Tim Brown returns the kick for a TD. LSU gets the ball back and goes on another 7-8 minute drive for a TD. End of 1st quarter, LSU 14 ND 7 and the Irish had the ball about 12 seconds in the entire quarter. Disclaimer: It was more than 30 years ago, so if I got anything wrong, I apologize in advance.

Nah that was about it. Remember watching it on TV (I think TBS). That goal line stand was one of the best four plays consecutively ever in TS history or SEC history really. Textbook formula on how to defend the end zone near the goal line. Toby Caston was a beast! Our LBs were great in the 80's and up until 1988. Eric Hill and Sancho made a lot of plays that night like they did every game.

He was a beanpole like Brennan, but had a much better OL to protect him and give him a few seconds to find receivers. Sad Sad OL situation currently in place at LSU. I'm a militant realist that doesn't walk around waving P&G pom poms. Just wait until the season unfolds and we get into the SEC Meat. It's going to be OL

Only thing you got right here is that Hodson was skinny like Brennan was when a FR. Folks are letting the spring game once again warp their reality. Two starters out remember. The issue is lack of experience at tackle positions and LT. The talent is there and Cregg is known to be a solid coach for fundamentals - better rep than Grimes in that department.

LT will be the chief concern. Traore needs to get accustomed to the SEC speed rushers. Charles is there. Between the two those are better odds than what we had last year or over the past few years going back to Miles era.

They are not the best OL we ever had but certainly not the worst by no means. Also, when hearing reports on pressure on the QB in scrimmages on what we saw during spring game - keep this in mind. How much is to do with how dominant our DL can be? Think on it!

I was there. My third year at LSU. Lived in Tiger Stadium’s east dorm at the time. That goal line stand was the best I’ve ever seen in person. One of the loudest moments I remember in TS. I wish we had Jim Hawthorne’s call as it was much more scintillating and indicative of the sound when Steve Rehage hit Tim Brown on the 5 yard line. I had a cassette tape recording of it for years. (Don’t anymore) It was a big game because the sugar bowl was at stake. Thanks for posting this! One of my all time favorite games. And Steve Rehage was THE MAN.

Yea, Steve Rehage was the MAN! He gave 100% effort on every play in his 3 years at LSU.

I don't know if he ever played professionally but he had an awesome career as a Tiger.

Yea, it was a great, but frustrating game. Tigers dominated play from start to finish, but made enough mistakes to turn the game into a nailbiter.

Tim Brown straight up the middle. I will never forget that. I was 11 years old at the game with my grandpa.

It's really amazing what Arnsparger was able to do with players you could never imagine starting with any Power 5 conference team. Sammy Martin comes to mind-a critically undersized tailback at 5'11" and 165 pds., and yet when he handled the football he had the power and determination of a speeding bullet.

Those teams were loaded. And Sammy Martin played in the NFL??? Can you elaborate on what other players you think wouldn't have started for other major schools?

One of my all time favorite games. First game I attended without my dad. Got tickets from our mayor, borrowed the parents' Caprice Classic (two-tone blue, naturally) and and rode over with a buddy who knew a girl at LSU with a place for us to stay. Doesnt get much better than that.

You are confused. (leave it at that) You can not follow a general line of LSU history due to the fact that you haven't any. Notre Dame vs LSU is the subject not simply LSU.

Would be curious how many Heisman winners LSU has beaten besides Tim Brown

Tebow and Jason White come to mind

Johnny Football, Lamar Jackson

What is it with you, Ree, and a handful of others that can’t answer a question without being a total arse? Seriously WTF is this?

What is it? You're whimps who are weak especially if you believe wearing your 'royal purple' for home games somehow affects who wins these games. You're beyond the asylum as Alabama has said numerous times. Additionally you've allowed yankee pundits to convince LSU to not demand night games only at home!! You are weak and it shows.

That was in 1987. They did some at halftime of the Alabama game and before and during the Kentucky game (day game).

As for that 1986 Notre Dame game one sequence of events was really fortunate for LSU. Obviously we won 21-19. But early in the 4th quarter Notre Dame attempted a field goal of 45 yards or longer. They made it,but prior to the snap one of our guys made contact and the play was ruled dead. No FG. They moved 5 yards CLOSER and this time the poor ND kicker missed. Now, there was a good bit of time left in the game, but still since we won by 2...

Browndyke (yes, Browndyke) missed a FG in the 1st half as well. So the Carney miss a couple minutes later canceled that out.
