I think the optics are going to be skewed all over the place for this game.
One side will approach it with a vintage Miles perspective of "LSU should never lose to a non-SEC team in the regular season". A loss will have them screaming that things are completely terrible here.
Other side will invoke the "obviously the opponent is elite" argument, most infamously applied to Troy last year (hey, Troy's a great team, they won 10 games and their conference). In their eyes, a loss will mean Miami should be the favorite to win the national title, and we should be rewarded for playing them.
Truth is, both LSU and Miami are good/not great teams, with some question marks. LSU has probably more unknowns, but might be getting more benefit of the doubt.
The only thing I think is legit is- this is the type of game a contender should win. That goes for both LSU and Miami.

It would be similar to the Wisconsin loss.

Wisconsin was unranked and LSU was number 5. This time Miami will be top 10 most likely and there's a chance LSU won't be ranked this time. It's a bit different IMO.
In fact, this very question may be being asked in Miami in reverse.

Wisconsin finished 11-3. They were a good team that year.
And LSU won't be ranked to start the year because they have a shitty head coach, not because they lack talent.

You’re on this board asking if there will be a complete meltdown if we lose that game? I’ll answer your honest question with my own honest question: have you ever read this board before? People lose their minds when we WIN a game.

I agree with you, but at the time no one knew that Wisconsin was gonna finish that way.

If LSU went 15-0 next year Anti-Os would be pumped, and probably admit they were wrong. If LSU goes 0-15 O pumpers will tell us 2 years isn’t enough time to “turn around” a program.
Well at least you gave the two MOST likely scenarios for the team....

I have great respect for Mark Richt as a decent man, but what has he accomplished on the football field to earn a "far superior" rating?

Be like me, get drunk at the game and you'll find you're less upset, but even more pumped if we win! Did that every game after state last year. Already prepping my liver

The blind Orgeron haters will never melt if LSU wins. They have a list of excuses built in to blame someone/something else should LSU win.
See how this works?

JESUS himself could coach this team, and there would still be haters and naysayers calling for him to be fired.

Great addition as always. You've somehow managed to go the better part of 15 years on this site without ever actually expressing your own opinion or contributing to a discussion in any meaningful way. Impressive.

The Anti's will NEVER admit they are wrong. If that unlikely event should happen we'll read about the team wining in spite of Orgeron... or "what if".....or the team got some undeserved close calls ..or...or....or...or.

A hell of a lot more than Orgeron has.

I'm not addressing the topic because it's stupid, but you sure do have a strange pattern of capitalization.

How many SEC championships did he go to while at Georgia. How many losing seasons did he have at Georgia? How many losing seasons did O have at ole miss? How many division titles has O won? What's the winning percentage comparison between the two coaches? Even if mark richt isn't an elite coach he is far better than O and it's not even close. Don't try to tear down another coach to try to pump up O. Theres a reason no one wanted O besides LSU and Miami hired Richt right after he was fired from Georgia.
