Durant: Kobe and MJ are the two greatest players of all-time

Durant especially, a player likely to crack the mythical 30,000 points mark, has plenty to gain in all-time discussions should the Warriors win, so history has often been a topic of conversation for Durant. The reigning Finals MVP spoke with Vince Carter about history and historic players and was asked which players he would have loved to have played in the Finals, and while choosing Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan as his answer isn’t all that surprising, another tidbit he added to his answer may shock some.
“It’s a tie between MJ and Kob,” Durant said. “Two guys that I think are a head above everybody else that’s ever played the game. Just their will to win is something that’s contagious, and it makes you a better player as an opponent as well.”

Warriors have been talking a ton of trash and Lebron hasn’t done anything about it
No killer instinct

They did match at SF before Kobe retired. Not a huge Kobe fan, but hard to disagree

LeBron has been phenomenal the entire playoffs lol

If LeBron doesn't give Durant that work tonight offensively and defensively, I'm moving Kobe back ahead of him.

Durant can never be brought up in the greatest of all time conversation. He pulled the weakest move in sports history

Just because an NBA player says it, it doesn't mean it's true.

No. You could say Kareem/Bill Russell/MJ and you would be correct.

i'll never get this fascination with Kobe as a GOAT-level player. he simply was not

Style of play and demeanor apparently still appeals to some people.

Agreed

he tried to copy MJ and was an inferior version of MJ
he was an amazing basketball player but nowhere near GOAT level
MJ/Lebron is a discussion
Kobe v. either is not a discussion
Kobe's "discussions" are people like KG or DWade

I find more former and current players have Kobe ranked higher than Bron, but media/analysts rank Bron higher.

Well players obviously know better than the media
Until one likes Lebron then I change my stance

Yea it's true.
However, the "will" to win thing is a real thing. LeBron has it more than people give him credit for, but he has learned it as opposed to it being a part of his DNA. He would lay eggs 7-10 years ago and look like he didn't worry about it.
MJ and Kobe would have been ripping teammates apart for the way they are playing defense and missing wide open shots consistently. LeBron doesn't really do that in public ever.

there is certainly a "cult of Kobe" that has existed for 15+ years at this point and in some ways has amplified now that he's retired
i've argued with many (online and irl) and a good chunk legit remove the discussions from reality. i got into it one time at a poker table with this dude who swore kobe was a better 3 point shooter than lebron. when i googled the stats (lebron is solidly ahead in 3p%) he STILL refused to concede
