Interesting. You haven’t been afraid to presume things for the other 10 pages of this thread
Such as?
Don't get all upset on me now Lester, I'm actually kind of curious why you're almost hellbent on hoping Vietmeier gets cut at this point.
Still not sure how your comment gets away from my point in your making a lot of baseless assumptions there, like "oh we are going to have to make scholarship room so he will have to get cut".

Moffitt and Reese are both coming back, Kodros is gone. Viet is back also.

DO you know about any of the incoming guys? One of them was a HS teammate of Kodros.

Only reason to keep Moffitt is if it's a scholarship issue and not a numbers thing. Absolutely no reason to give him a spot if one is needed

It is not about Viet. It is about questioning the all-knowing Lester Earl. He is never wrong about anything, except when he is, but even then he will tell you he wasn't wrong.

There are 8 walk on spots. Moffitt is certainly one. It's reasonable to assume that Reese is also one.
The 27 person limit will force some of these decisions as much as the 35 person limit does. If I'm not mistaken, and I don't want to assume, but this is the point Lester Earl has been emphasizing.
Yesterday I thought Moffitt might be on the way out because I thought his walk on spot was going to be temporary given how it was related to Walker's injury in the first place. People are going to bitch, but his spot on the team is more related to him not getting a scholarship than who his dad is.

27 is max scholly. About 1/2 team not on any scholly. They are non scholarship players, not walk on's. there's a difference

Good to know, I wouldn't have thought that.

That makes sense. I know there are differences in access to amenities and stuff like that for football, so it makes sense that the NCAA carves out a difference there.

What do you mean by this? I had a buddy who was a walk on for football years ago, there were things full ride guys had access to that he didn't?

It's why coach never discusses his incoming class until they are all enrolled at LSU. Per NCAA rules he cannot discuss non-scholly players prior to enrolling. He does not want to expose who is and is not on scholly

I’m not upset at all. This whole thread is filled with presumption so I’m curious as to why all of a sudden I can’t presume Viet is on scholaship. If I hate Vietmeier then you hate Moffit? Is that how your thinking works.

I do not like Moffitt's on field performance as I'm sure that is likely close to 100% agreeable by anyone who watched him pitch this year and get absolutely destroyed to the tune of nearly a .400 BAA
But yes, to presume one way or the other what kind of scholarship or not Vietmeier has is very presumptuous with absolutely no basis to it. Fact is, we dont know what his scholarship situation is precisely like.

Of course if you want the best possible 35, coaches convince a kid with the ability to pay for school to give up his scholarship and then bump a dead weight guy. An example would be a local kid like Smith giving up some scholarship money in order to keep a stud juco pitchers commitment and then bumping a low end bullpen pitcher from the 35. It's how the business works.
Not in any way saying above scenario is true, just an example

In my amateur opinion if Gilbert is a "lock" how much have we really improved?

Gilbert was hurt this year. A healthy Gilbert in 2017 had a sub 2.00 ERA and threw in the low to mid 90s

Slaughter was an All American for every opposing team LSU played.

Gilbert wasn’t hurt in the early games was he? When he was giving up 3 HRs a game. I’m not trying to say he wouldn’t have had a better season. But I think you’re going a little too far.
