Obviously, Pumkinseed (shellcracker) and Redear Sunfish are the same.
Don't even get me started on the longear/redbreast debacle.
And wtf is a Flier?

I have only seen one of those “flier” fish. It was caught sacaulait fishing south of Gibson. Really thought it was a perch/sac hybrid till we looked it up

There is a pumpkin seed that is not a chinquapin. I am just not sure about that choice of pic. Also, we have a very small sunfish that could be either long eared or pumpkin, but I just can't make the call. The pics I find show some large individuals. The ones I'm talking about never get even close to eating size.
Pumpkin seed.
Long eared,

Pumpkin seed.

Long eared,

Not breams. Breams eat crickets/worms and Sacacrapiperch eat shiners.

Used to catch a bunch of them at Kitterlin Creek. First time I caught one I didn't know what it was. Rode around with it on ice until I could get to a book to look it up. Caught a bunch of them in the years after that.

Warmouth is a goggle-eye?

Filer is to crappie as a white trout is to Specs?

So many people get warmouth(goggle eye) and green sunfish mixed up. I bet I have seen 10 pics so far this year alone of green sunfish, sometimes 20 on a stringer. And they post them on various FB pages as warmouth. SMMFH. Pumpkinseed(shellcrackers) get big and yea that chart is accurate. Fliers can get as big as sac-a-lait.

Eh, not really. Even though they look sorta similar, the Flier is the only member of its genus but is in the same family as crappie family. Interestingly, the Flier genus is the type genus for that family. No, I really don't know what that means

Dollar sunfish may be what I am always catching and using for bait,
