I am. I won’t need my organs when I’m dead. If me dying can help other people live, then it’s worth it. But I am not planning on living up to that anytime soon. I’d like to keep my heart beating for another 70+ years.

I know there are people out there who don’t want to be organ donors for non-religous reasons. That is their right, but I think it is a bit selfish.

Organ donor and signed up to be a bone marrow donor if needed. I also donate blood and platelets.

When I'm gone, they can take whatever they can use.

Organ donation should be the mandatory default. You should have to go to the DMV and "opt out" of donation.

I used to be a donor, but then my brain started working. It is not hard to find proof of medical professionals not doing everything they can to save organ donors. It's out there. If you think that's impossible, remember that there are thousands upon thousands of medical professionals who have no problem murdering and unborn child, and many of those who have no problem with the ghoulish practice of selling off the remains of their kill.

Then you add in the legitimate fact that many of those performing this work are getting wealthy beyond belief doing it, but not one of them gives a damn if your wife is going to have to turn tricks to pay the emergency room bill that made you a donor in the first place.

Doctors make mistakes, you can find stories daily of people that, "will never recover." There is a point they assume you dead or have to begin harvesting of organs, after that point comes you have zero shot at life. I'd take my chances with the doctor's being wrong, over no chance.

Yes, it also helps when getting pulled over. You look like a good person in the eyes of a cop who's having a cheerful day.

I am... but I am about to NOT be...

So, I heard this is not an uncommon practice... that if you have "organ donor" status on your card, and you are in a bad spot after a wreck, they are more apt to letting things slide to get your organs.

frick that. I would rather not be an organ donor even if my odds are only 1% worse, regarding that scenario.

I am not a donor because I can't be due to family medical history on my dad's side of the family. I would if I could though.

Awesome letter.

Reminds me of this

LINK

Young man from Louisiana needed a heart.

Such an awesome story about this guy's daughter's organs being used, but only the young man from Louisiana would meet with him I think.. He tried reaching out to the others..

Thank you for sharing that Paige.

My Dad was the recipient of a Donor Kidney which allowed him to live the rest of his life without going for Dialysis twice a week.

His Donor Kidney came from an 18 year old Girl killed in a car wreck on a trip home from the University.

I certainly hope that when I pass,my earthly remains might make someone's life better,as well.

I'm a whole body donor, like my Dad was.

Rather than the family having huge expenses and dealing with all the pomp and ceremony we all signed up with GenesisLegacy.org.

Within a reasonable area of Memphis they handle everything to do with the remains upon death. Just tell the hospital/funeral home. You get 5-7 death certificates, they arrange for the body to be shipped for use in training/research. When the research/training use is completed they cremate and send the remains to the family (or arrange for final disposition in Memphis). All at ZERO COST.

We got a couple of lengthy letters with the details of what Dad's remains were used for (new surgical techniques, testing new implant/surgical devices, some donations like skin and such) was like 377 or so different training and procedures and such and then they USPS'd the remains to Mom (the lady carrier even shed a tear and hugged Mom).

Simplified the process a bunch. Mom only had her grief to deal with while all physical stuff was handled.
