You're not even going to be there all the time to take care of them AND you have tests yourself. How are you going to afford to feed them? She's asking you for money and certainly not giving you any for their care. Two weeks will turn into the three and then four etc... Even if that doesn't happen, you'll be giving them back to her anyway. How is that going to be worth it for the kids?

It sucks what trashy people do to their kids
But you can't save them if you don't have anything to offer
And right now you've got nothing. Insulate yourself from them, purge the trashy elements from your life and maybe one day you'll be able to help her unfortunate grandchildren get a leg up in the world.

That was funny. But seriously, maybe you can be the positive influence on their lives.
My secretary's daughter is a jailbird (FEMA fraud, drugs, etc.). She has 3 kids and they are all screw-ups. The oldest was getting into trouble as a freshman. Since the dad is a deadbeat, I offered to take him to his physicals so that he could play football and got him enrolled in tutoring sessions.
Since that time, he's excelled in school and other sports as well and is set to graduate this summer albeit late.
Those kids can't help their environment baw. Takes unselfish people to put them on the right path

In nursing school with 3 kids - not indicative of great decisions in the past but sounds like a solid attempt to better herself and reasonable to take unemployment. I'd support it in those circumstances, i.e. Limited time and person actively trying to improve their situation.
Any chance you're being too harsh?
Seems like helping out would be the right thing to do but no way I'd agree to overnight or more than several hours at a time.
