Go spend some time with the people. As far as I am concerned, SoCal can fall off into the ocean.
Which part of SoCal did you hang out in?

When you are making comparisons like this you have to use per capita numbers, not total numbers. I wouldn't doubt California would still be ahead of Louisiana if you use per capita but the contrast wouldn't be as impactful. California has like 10 times the population of Louisiana so of course they're going to have more of everything. Do you want to compare how many murders they have versus how many we have?
Don't be disingenuous

i actually don't mind my work, but that's b/c i enjoy trying to create new systems and methods to maximize efficiency and it's allowed me to attempt to grow my firm doing things that don't stress me out and lead to lots of positive output for others

I just find it amusing when people still living in Louisiana trash any other state (besides maybe Mississippi) in general. Even more so when that state is a state as awesome as California.

I'm doing my summer gig with a federal prosecutor in Austin. Any advice beyond keeping my opinions to myself?

I love SoCal. Sue me Apparently I’m the only one. The PCH from Santa Barbara to San Diego is pretty badass
You’re not alone. I work in California, and SoCal is hands down my favorite. If it weren’t for wine country, I’d be fine never going up north.
Most people hate L.A. but I love it.
If I could live there (having my current lifestyle), I’d do it in a heartbeat.

you're coming off as elitist based on generalities
for a quick/easy example, i may want to build a house one day. i'd never want to build a house in California
there are many practical reasons that make California an onerous destination. that doesn't mean Louisiana is heaven on earth

It’s true though.
People on this site trash California all the time. Many that still live in Louisiana....like they live in some perfect Utopia or something

Ok I will do it for him
Cali population: 39,540,000
Louisiana pop: 4,684,000
So Cali has 9.75x the population of Louisiana, but 30.82x the blue ribbon schools
So roughly 3.5 times more per capita

I don't care for L.A. which is why I hardly go there unless it's for a concert or sporting event. The surrounding areas have plenty of activities without having to go to L.A. too often IMO. Never a dull moment here.

network in the area b/c SA-ATX is the future of non-coastal population centers
in terms of the job, i assume your hand will be pretty much held, especially b/c it's a government job. just do exactly what you're told and only show outside the box thinking when it's the perfect opportunity. don't get too fancy/creative and be a worker bee

Because you have a much of morons who haven't left their home state.
I find it funny when they are in awe after hearing of California's other conservative culture and its strong farming, ranching and agrarian makeup.

I just don’t get how people that live in a state with many flaws....could hate California with the ignorant passion they do.
“I hate California, place is nothing but liberals!” is the tone of many of their posts.

Its rather obvious you have to take into account their population differences but even a quick glance will tell the reader California has a higher per capita number than LA
The list shows the % of schools that earned ribbons. I probably should have included that in my initial post.
25.4% of CA schools earned ribbons compared to just 6% of Louisiana schools.
