I will add that those public schools teachers unions (among other unions) are part of the problem with the states economy
It aint a problem when your wife is a Nurse which has one of the most powerful unions in Cali

i think the hate comes primarily from their attitude, namely a superiority complex and their desire to impose their culture/policies on the rest of the US. they really do believe that they are the breeding ground of progress in the US and flex that muscle a lot

in terms of the day to day, it's not difficult to understand why an over-regulated, incredibly progressive, and expensive society isn't looked at favorably by the more "salt of the earth" types you find on here. it's not magic or anything, just two very different perspectives almost across the spectrum

also i do have to note that while southern california is almost perfect in terms of climate, it's all a facade. it's almost a desert and requires MASSIVE irrigation and diversion and when water becomes the next resource to reach critical mass, they are frickED

the liberal policies that have been enacted in California dwarf everything any all of the places you listed combined.

Yet they have built California into the world's 5th largest economy.

They are a net contributor to federal taxes where Louisiana is accepts more federal taxes than it contributes.

California is a beautiful state. I love the San Diego area and will target that location after my kids graduate HS

I'm not sure where you think I live, but Tennessee isn't 49. True, we aren't top half even, but I blame the majority rural areas for a lot of that.

Not bad, but "fly over people" just brings home the insignificance.

Geographically, California is wonderful. In regards to the weather, it's wonderful. Politically though, it's a fricking nightmare.
