I just don’t get how people that live in a state with many flaws....could hate California with the ignorant passion they do.
different values
California, especially the population centers (which is 95% of "California" in these discussions) are the epitome of a very polarized culture and set of values that many people (not just in LA) across the US abhor
you're a Christian. would you profess support of the Church of Satan over your home church? i bet they have a higher income/education level, lower crime, and all sorts of positive advantages over your church's population. no. why? because it's not within your culture/values

Nurse is right. The only time I’ve ever seen people step down is in threads like this. Otherwise, 90% of what you hear from Louisiana folks is “CALIFORNIA AND THEIR LIBERALS!”
Any point they may actually have is squashed when they carry on like that.

I would move to Northern California in a heartbeat and never look back

why?
you're making an assertion without any sort of backing
i presuppose it's b/c you agree with the liberal cultural values more than LA and you feel it's superior b/c it's within your preferences
and that's fine, but it's YOUR individual preferences
if i don't want to be around progressives, why the frick would i live in a population center in California? serious question

just so we're clear, i talk plenty of shite about LA
it's dying outside of SWLA. the future of LA is the Lafayette-LC corridor, not BR/Nola

Because people are idiots and let a few Hollywood loud mouths ruin an entire state for them. It’s a huge and very diverse state.
...that is run by socialists who are criminally insane. Louisiana is run by incompetent morons. There's a difference.

You know, you don’t have to live in Hollywood or San Fran ... right?

You remind me of an episode of Silicon Valley where the startup CEOs are afraid to partner with a fellow CEO because he is a gay Christian. The satire is you can be anything you want in Silicon Valley, except Christian.

progressives aren't limited to these areas
plus progressive policy is everywhere. again, i go back to my "building a house" example. the regs on simple construction are insane
if i was a billionaire i'd have a lot of fun living in LA but as a normal person having to live around the general population, this would be me all day, every day

there actually was a subtle hidden context in that hypo for nurse that you kind of hit on

It's just funny when Louisiana people talk shite about California liberals all while their biggest cities are run by liberals too. The only difference is just that California's big cities are so massive, mainly LA, that they carry the state in presidential elections.

Head in the sand is no way to go through life. LA politicians are proudly corrupt socialists throughout the history of the state.

But that’s wrong.
My issue is not with their political beliefs. It’s with their need to constantly shout to everyone how much they DESPISE a state in its entirety and then fall back on the liberals excuse.
Also, I think there’s a difference between not wanting to live somewhere vs hating the place and everyone there. I entirely understand why some may not want to live in California, politics probably being a big reason. But I’ve met numerous people who would never even set foot there for a visit because “liberals”. It’s narrow minded and ridiculous. Nobody is serving you a beer or cleaning your hotel room while singing liberal chants
