Professional athletes usually dont have much time to keep up with other sports. They usually know the superstars and not these system guys.

Ichiro spends the off-seasons (so, almost all of football season including the playoffs) training in Japan.

I remember a video of a teenage Ichiro fawning over Michael Jordan.

He knows who tom Brady is, esp after spending 3 seasons in NY recently
