What's the strategy here when playing in a scramble? Most consistent go first? Goes last?
Got a scramble coming up and looking for some tips.

Let you A player decide what he wants to do. Some will wants to go first and get it out the way. Others will want to see what the team does then decide.
Some tournaments will make you hit in order of player A-D.

Drink a lot. Oh, and the fattest guy with the ugliest swing will win the Long Drive contest, so don't even bother going for the big one.
I'd say the best player usually goes last, hoping that one of his partners gets one safe and he can freewheel it.

I like to let myself and some of the weaker players play first from the tee/fairway. If we get one in play, it allows the better player to take a more aggressive approach. If we don't get one in play, then the better player can take the safe approach.
On the green, let the one best player read it and point out your aiming spot... then let your best speed guy hit the first one and try to give the best player as many looks at it as possible.

Just have fun. Don’t take it serious.
It’s all about making putts. Normally will always have one in play unless nobody can break 100 on their own.

Best driver goes last off tee. Fairway, whatever the group wants, on the green best putter last for sure.

Sounding like overall best player finishes up each hole.
Appreciate the incite fellas.

Cheat?
Seriously, I've never played in a scramble where cheating wasn't almost expected.

I'm almost always the best player in my group, I will hit first off the tee, but last with approach shots. Putting order just goes by who gets hot.

Not necessarily. I usually am first off the tee and last one to putt.

Most of the time I'd agree. But if your best putter doesn't want the pressure of going last, have him go 3rd.

If you want to win, have a good pencil.
Just have fun.
Have best go last.
They might like options if another ball is in play

If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying.
You’re going to have to write in a few eagles and mostly birdies. Don’t write down more than a 2-3 pars and NEVER write in a bogie.

This gives your 2 best players the ability to be aggressive.
This does vary in some parts of the game. One guy might be the best driver. One guy a really good putter.
We usually adjust after 2-3 holes when we get a chance to see how everyone's game is playing that day.

quote:True. Some people don't like the added pressure. But, I usually let them decide. It often depends on the makeup of the group.

I don't mind going first or last. The pressure isn't any different than what I put on myself on every shot anyway.

It depends on who I'm playing with. Other good players, I'll putt last. A bunch of higher handicaps, 1st because I can't really trust anything I see from them, i.e. putting lines.

I'm not the best better but even if I am in the group I'm playing with, I still like to go first. I do better trusting my instincts.
