It's $9 to tent camp, toolbag. Those sites you're talking about are RV type spots or drive-up camping spots for people who like the idea of sleeping in a tent, but don't really like the idea of camping.

1. A premium campsite is an improved campsite with sewer or is pull-through or is in a prime location.
2. An improved campsite has water and electrical hookup available.
3. An unimproved campsite does not have utility hookups. These are typically located in campgrounds where utilities or bathhouses are nearby.
4. Backcountry campsites typically only have a tent pad and fire ring and are located in undeveloped areas of an OSP site, where no facilities are provided. These sites are accessed by backpacking or by non-motorized watercraft.

It's ok...the OP sounds about as prepared as the guy who gets attacked by a bear. Go have fun in the wilderness dumbass

I've never paid to tent camp, but then again, I always use BLM land.

Go to Kisatchie National Forest...I think the campgrounds there are like $2/car/night.

ETA: I just looked it up and some of the campgrounds there are $2, some are more depending on what kind of facilities they have.

FS land doesn't require payment most of the time either...unless you're in a state park or developed campground.

State parks at Toledo Bend cost 18 bucks a night. Are you sure you are looking at primitive sites and not trailer and rv campsites? We reserve rv sites at south Toledo state park for 25 bucks a night.

Enjoy your tent camping in TX and getting robbed by Illegals.

I pay the requisite $9 fee and Camp at an unimproved site.

It costs to have people to empty trash cans, keep up the grounds, security, etc. Plus keeps the trash out as well.

Do you hunt or fish? If so, you can camp on a WMA for free, and they have them all over the state.

May as well pitch a tent in your backyard if you are going to a SP.

Try chicoet park, baw. It's is located in Ville Platte, but they charge $15-$20.

It is something like $28 per night. Up recently from $24, iirc.

Another poster mentioned $9 per night but that is for a site you have to hike to. What they should offer is drive up tent sites. No utilities needed.

For example, Rocky Mountain NP has drive up sites for $18 to $26 and I argue that park is 100x better than any LA State Park.

One of my favorite places to camp is Lake Kincaid Rec Area in Kisatchie. A site with water and electricity is $15 a night or they have primitive pull-up sites for $10 a night.

Last week I tent camped at something similar in Ozark NF in Arkansas for $4 a night. It was also a nicer area than anywhere in Louisiana.

There used to be camping out by Pearl River, in MS, just over the state line.

We called them" the islands" because you had to take your boat across to get to the beach on the other side. The privacy there was great. No one but us (and we had a group of about a dozen couples, all friends).

I'd love to find a place like that again to go visit again.

A National Park that's better than a State Park?

Well that's a shocker. Glad we got that cleared up.
