Back in the day, you would sit your first couple years and work on getting better. Many great college quarterbacks didn't start until they were at least juniors. Heck, Tom Brady didnt start until he was a senior.
The whole point of developing in college is learning a system, hitting the weight room, and studying hard in the film room.
For those who have written McMillan off because he hasn't beaten anybody out yet, dont understand what development is.
I see a guy who has gotten better, PERIOD.
They need to give him a shot. He looks like he deserves it.

he looked better then the other two in a scrimmage. Let’s see this play out before you try to convince everyone he deserves it

To your point, Brennan needs another year.

But he might not have that luxury.

The naysayers will be out in droves. You are dead on about development. Problem with the dummies is he has not received any preseason hype and has always been perceived as #3 in the hunt. I have touted this youngster for some time so not surprised to see coming in to his own. If he gets the job, watch the growth with game time ??

if he wins the job I’ll support him 100 percent. He did look more poised and confident in his decision making.

It does happen. I'm not sure why people assume that if he gets the job something went wrong.

I also don't get why we're upset that for the first time in a long time we actually have an active competition for the QB position and haven't designated an heir apparent. Isn't that what we asked for?

Having said that, JM did NOT separate himself. So on one hand the competition is most definitely is not over and LN/MB can do what they need to do (get better) and change things. On the other hand, so a RS sophomore and a TrSO aren't playing like 3rd year starters and matching their high school star rankings (yeah, first time we've seen that happen... ever) so they are a bust.

Does he?

Most teams aren’t going to be starting a converted WR at CB.

He’s smart enough to pick on the camp
Bodies but he isn’t a great QB

Slightly faster Danny Etling feels right.

He was the best QB in the spring game. So yes, he deserves at the very least a shot at winning the job.

McMillan is a legit dual-threat QB. Just because Etling isn't as slow as Mett doesn't mean he's near McMillan. Also when have you ever seen Etling look a defense off and throw a perfect back-shoulder dart to his WR 25 yards down the field?

I just want us to play whoever provides the best chance for LSU to win. Whether or not it will be sufficient to compete in the SEC is a completely different story.

Back in the day players didn't have the year round development in camps and with individualized QB coaches while they were still in high school and after the senior year before enrolling in college. Now a days some of these guys are receiving as much coaching before they start college as the kids in the old days got their first year or 2 of college.

Tom Brady sat behind Brian Griese, who turned out to be pretty damn good himself. I appreciate Danny Etling and Brandon Harris' time here, but Brian Griese they are not.

McMillian was barely a take out of high school. That's not to say he can't develop into a good QB, but his tangibles were always a question mark. It's not like he sat behind two great QBs. If McMillan plays this year, it's because Brennan and/or Narcisse have not progressed as expected.

Who are the 3 best QBs we've had since Saban left? JRuss, Flynn, and Mett.

What do they all have in common? They were all developed by someone other than a Miles/Ogre staff.

We still have the same problem even though 0 and his binder promised an all-world "hire" to fix it. The fact that JM is now what some of us consider development at an adequately competitive SEC level is just sad.

I'm in agreement. People do see what they want in these situations, but he did look the best to me, and he can polish up his game enough to be really good for us. People keep talking about strong arms, but that's not necessary in college, and definitely not in spread offenses.

I see a guy who is on the road to becoming the starting QB for LSU. He has the experience, the confidence, and actually has playmaking ability. It's up to him how much he improves in the next four months, but I think he can start for us, and play well, IF we run an open offense.

That luxury is not afforded much today. The shiny new toy with more potential will transfer. Can't let that happen.

I think the same about Myles Brennan going forward. Maybe they can redshirt him this year. Kid has all the tools, but must put on pounds get more adjusted to the speed of the college game. We shouldn't just expect him to roll in here and but QB #1. I know some schools do have that luxury, but right now we don't. I could see him in two years as a redshirt Jr being ready to roll. Hopefully he is willing to stay patient, knowing his family...I'm sure they will be.
