Why do OT Ballers hate diamonds and new cars?

I've noticed quite a few threads with dudes dumping on new cars and expensive engagement rings. They also seem to have a problem with expensive homes and expensive clothing.
They do, however, seem to be fine with spending hundreds/thousands of dollars per year on little johnny, with poor genetics, to play travel ball.
I find this confusing.

They didn’t get to be OT ballers by buying stupid, unnecessary stuff.

Yea, the new car hate is really baffling. I didn't bust my arse in college to drive a beater, and the vehicles my family travels in will have the benefit of all the latest safety tech.

It is funny how everyone seemed to propose to their ot 10 wife with a knot of twine as a ring.

Yeah, I didn't hit it hard on nights and weekends with engineering books so I could spend my 30's trying to figure out why the AC in my Mercury Tracer isn't working.

Contrary to what they tell you, most of these dudes are working shift work for like 65k/year. When a little reality slips through their tough man internet persona they show that.

These people didn't become billionaires by throwing money around.

I'm glad your engineering degree helped you solve your Mercury Tracer AC problems in your late 20s. Subtle my car has AC brag.

ROI, Peck. The new car is a terrible ROI. A couple grand on teaching Johnny to throw a curveball will likely net a multimillion dollar MLB contract.

I'd assume because they are generally looked at as a waste of money, because the new car depreciates immediately and the diamond isn't worth what it costs.
I say this as someone who purchased a new vehicle, and a decently expensive engagement ring.
I would also definitely not do this:

I bought my last car new and in retrospect it was probably one of the dumber financial decisions I've made
My next car will likely be a used car
You act as if the only 2 options are new car and beater. That's just silly.

diamonds are complete ripoffs
often, cars can be, too

It’s downright appalling and disconcerting to say the least, my dear fellow. The unbridled vitriol and sophomoric badgering is nothing short of reprehensible. As if I’ll ever curate my lavish lifestyle and endless assets for the sake of these clodpolls. Get used to my opulence, bozos.

I've actually never purchased a used vehicle. Come at me

Personally, we haven’t owned a new car (off the lot) since 2005, but I don’t think people who buy new cars are necessarily making bad decisions. If you can afford it and want to, then go for it.
The problem is that there are a lot of people who think they can afford to be thousands of dollars upside down with $1400 in car payments each month, but are actually drowning financially.

It's equally silly to act like buying a new car is always a dumb decision. There is no one size fits all answer, and acting like you're better than someone else for the decision you personally choose is just dumb. (not saying you're doing that, just a general comment)

You could cut the insecurity in this thread with my diamond encrusted samurai sharpened bread knife.

Actually, that's exactly what they do. You don'rt get rich by not making risky moves. Not equating a car purchase to those moves, but your comment is completely wrong. And pretty much all "rich" people have nice cars.

From a pure financial standpoint it usually is
If you're willing to pay more for what you want then that's a personal preference
