Black Panther may have been its own special phenomenon. I personally will be very interested in Infinity War but my passion for that won't compel me to dress up or see it multiple times in the theater.

$480M domestic

$1.4B worldwide

Both would be higher than Civil War but well under what the Marvel fanboys are throwing around.

Infinity War will break Black Panther’s $$$ record...and it will be said by culcha (and their self-loathing white sycophants) that the ONLY reason it happened is because...you guessed it: Racism. They will say that whites couldn’t stand the fact that a black-oriented movie held the #1 spot, so the crackas pulled out all the stops and saw it enough times to ensure it broke Black Panther’s record.

Age of Ultron broke 1.4 billion and nobody gives a shite about that movie. Hard to see this one not topping that.

I think Infinity War is going to set records that will last awhile. Curious to see if it retains the core BP crowd.

But as for the rest, anyone who's seen a couple Marvel flicks knows this one is the Big Deal, so they're going.

I don't even watch many of these movies, and I'm going to see it.

It's breaking records because of two things: black people will show up en masse to vote for other black people and to watch black movies/movie stars, regardless of how good or deserving those things are. Go to a Denzel or Tyler Perry movie and black people jam pack those theaters.

Zero Tyler Perry movies have made over $100m at the domestic box office and just 5 Denzel Washington movies in his entire career have gone over $100m domestically.

Black Panther is currently at $674m and made $5m in it's 9th weekend. That's nearly half of what Denzel's last movie Roman J Israel made at just $11.9m.

The other reason is because they had Black Panther being an absolutely badass in Civil War. When we walked out of that movie, my immediate takeaway was that I couldn't wait for the BP movie to come out.

To be fair, what Marvel hero isn't a badass? Even Paul Rudd of all people was ripped as hell and rocked parkour skills in Ant-Man.

The biggest difference w/BP and most other Marvel heroes is he got to have an intro in CA:CW instead of being introduced in an origin movie that nobody knew much beyond it being in the MCU.

On top of the character getting a good intro, Black Panther the film is visually very different than pretty much everything out there right now. It's much more interesting to look at that most other blockbusters. It also has several strong female characters who were more than the typical T&A damsels you tend to get in action movies. Yes, black people turned out at a higher clip than they tend to for other MCU movies but so did women and just about everyone else for that matter. It's a well liked movie across all demos.

Eh...maybe opening weekend record but that's it. It won't come close to the force awakens domestic gross, or Avatars WW total.

Movie is going to do very well, financially. However, in the BP afterglow, watch the critical reviews get scaled back. "Infinity War is great, but..." - expect to see that. Partially it will be because expectations are sky high and it will be almost impossible to meet them. But there is also this pervasive PC aura around Hollywood that will smother any talk the film might be better than BP.

The movie almost necessitates bad reviews honestly. I'll be shocked if it's markedly better than Ultron. It's going to throw too much at the viewer from past films, so reviewers are going to nail it for not being "complete on its own term."

I’d be very surprised if it gets above an 80 on RT.

Critics already throw negative reviews at MCU flicks other than BP because of superhero fatigue and nothing else. This time they’ll likely have complaints like too bloated with too many characters that don’t get enough screen time, too long of a movie that needs to be cut down, etc.

Both movies right before BP, Ragnarok and homecoming, were rated in the 90s on rotten tomatoes

Since Age of Ultron, which is the 75% on RT, the average for the 7 MCU films is 89% on RT.

I think a conservative estimate would be 1.5 billion worldwide

Well, in the Infinite comic, Wakanda is where the major battle happens due to their technology.. You saw all those frickin outriders attacking the force field and destroying the Hulkbuster in the trailer...

Opens north of $250 million, breaking the record.

Think it easily hits $1.5 billion worldwide. If it lives up to the hype, it’ll cross $2 billion. I know of many people, myself included, that plan on seeing it twice if/when it’s great
