With the movie a little over a week out, predictions are starting to come in. Presales are higher than the last 7 marvel movies combined and the hype is really taking off. With the money black panther made and the film being a movie event, what do you guys think about the box office results? I am thinking 255 million domestic opening and 1.8 billion total run. If the reviews are great, it could break 2 billion.

With as much as this movie will have going on, I can easily see myself going twice, and I never go to a movie twice. I've only done it for both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. There are folks out there who will easily see this movie 3+ times unless it's BvS-type garbage, which I don't think it will be.

Between 1.5 billion and 2.2 billion. That's a big gap, but it could fall anywhere in there depending on how good it is and how some of the movies coming out during its run effect it. Solo looks meh, but it's Star Wars. Deadpool 2 will take viewers, etc.

If the reviews are bad it's absolute floor is still over a billion though.

Well a big chunk of the movie is set in Wakanda w/a large battle scene, BP is still in the US box office top 10 after 9 weeks, and it has made $1.3 billion WW. But go ahead w/your culcha dog whistles pretending it's just black people who loved that movie.

It's a decent movie.

It's breaking records because of two things: black people will show up en masse to vote for other black people and to watch black movies/movie stars, regardless of how good or deserving those things are. Go to a Denzel or Tyler Perry movie and black people jam pack those theaters.

It's not a criticism, just fact that blacks were a huge factor in the record breaking numbers.

The other reason is because they had Black Panther being an absolutely badass in Civil War. When we walked out of that movie, my immediate takeaway was that I couldn't wait for the BP movie to come out.

I don’t.

I think it gets close though. If it gets good reviews then even the casual viewer will go just for the spectacle. It also depends on how well it goes over with the kids. If kids love it then parents will take their kids to see it that wouldn’t necessarily go see Ragnarok, BP, Guardians, etc.

Movie is going to do very well, financially. However, in the BP afterglow, watch the critical reviews get scaled back. "Infinity War is great, but..." - expect to see that. Partially it will be because expectations are sky high and it will be almost impossible to meet them. But there is also this pervasive PC aura around Hollywood that will smother any talk the film might be better than BP.

I’m not pretending it’s just black people who loved that movie. I went see it opening showing and I am not black. I enjoyed it.

I know for a fact not as many black people went to see other marvel movies like Thor, captain America etc, in theaters, yet those movies still made a boatload of money. Not as much as BP, but a boat load none the less.

If they could draw that huge black crowd ticket sale from BP along with the normal marvel blockbuster crowd, it’ll be epic number for sure.
