Damn - tennessee baseball is pathetic. Will neely is their only competent weekend starter.

Thanks for the stats. My biggest concern is that the LSU catcher does not frame pitches well. There is no way to tell how many strikes it costs in a game but it does get into a pitcher's head and can make him less comfortable.

that's your biggest concern? not that we dont have a 3rd starter? I am impressed with this team coming from behind yesterday, but that wont always be the case. it hard to win a sec series without a 3rd starter. Hilliard and Hess arent automatic wins.

One of my biggest concerns is hitting with risp and less than 2 outs. Lsu must capitalize on these opportunities, especially early in the game.

We've done it plenty. Not many teams in the country have a legitimate #3. We very rarely have yet have had no trouble winning SEC series and SEC titles. And this same complaint is posted almost every year.

We won a national title without won in 2009. Our #3, Austin Ross, was 6-8 with a 5.18 ERA. In college baseball, if you have 2 legitimate weekend starters, you're doing better than most schools.

That's a concern for every single baseball team in the country. The failures we remember much longer than the successes.

no, almost every single year people complain we don't have a legitimate Sunday starter. It is very rare to have three legitimate starting pitchers at this level. As I stated, we rarely have and have had no trouble winning conference titles without one, much less a series.

You are correct - it's every teams concern. For lsu, it's a problem.

Ross was 6-8, but how many innings did he eat up?

If the Sunday starter can keep it manageable for four or five innings that's big.

averaged about 4.1 innings per appearance. I never said he wasn't serviceable, but I don't think who I was responding to meant that

Exactly, we need a serviceable Sunday guy. A Sunday winner would be even better.

Doing like we did Sunday v Tenn is not a long term solution.

I understand what you mean by having a serviceable 3rd starter, but I really like this pitching staff. We are deep!
Fontenot, Labas, Sanders, Beck, Bush, Gilbert, Peterson, Bain, and Storz might shine later in the season.

One of my concerns is that he loses concentration at least once a game and let's one by that is clearly in his glove. We haven't had that issue for years.
I think it's going to bite us hard in a critical situation.

Pretty sure, Labas, the guy who threw 6 shutout innings against #25 LA Tech will be our Sunday starter.

I was wondering why Labas wasn't being touted as the 3rd starter, but I figured it had something to do with my less than stellar baseball knowledge.
