Not really. According to the Washington Post:
2015: 995 people were shot and killed by police
2016: 963 people were shot and killed by police
2017: 987 people were shot and killed by police
2018: 277 people have been shot and killed by police
It's just being yelled, screamed, and reported more by social media and the media as a whole each year, because the Left has an agenda.

We have an out of control police problem, period. Maybe it's more of a problem in black communities. I think so. But maybe not. Problem is we have cops with tactical gear and donated military hardware thinking their soldiers in a way against the people.
Not all of course. Seems to be a growing issue though. We need some serious readjusting of what police are actually supposed to do.
I think you meant to say that the BLM crowd has no problem killing cops which now has them on edge 24/7. We don’t have a police problem.

So why is BRPD facing critical staffing shortages?

Can you blame them? How would you like to be sent into the areas of town that law abiding citizens avoid like the plague?

I know their motto is "To Protect & Serve", but it's to protect and serve law abiding citizens against the likes of Alton Sterling and Michael Brown. These morons protesting are trying to make martyrs out of thugs and thugs out of Confederate Generals. The bullshite in this country is getting out of control.

This is more true than you know. We're losing a few guys to other depts. We lost one to Monroe of all places. A few are looking to retire early. The morale is shot. The Fergueson Effect is coming. I'm stuck because I'm just over the halfway mark and too old to go anywhere else. Just hoping the next few years go by fast. Honestly the only way I can see this trend to reverse itself is a complete house cleaning. Mayor, Cheif and a lot upper echelon members of the dept have to go, including some Neanderthals in the Union. We need new equipment desperately (cars), and a pay raise that means something. 2-3% ain't gonna cut it.
Excellent post. The fact that much of the force is still rolling in ‘08 Impalas is unacceptable.

What are they doing now? Selling Relife Windows, Lofton Security, picking off black guys...

What doesn't happen? Bad cops? Cops that cover for bad cops?

Sterling was killed by an officer who used his service weapon (presumably a 9mm or .40). What use of tactical gear or military hardware lead to this? The issue in Baltimore was a guy being killed while riding in the back of a paddy wagon. In NYC is was a guy being choked to death. In Missouri is was a guy being shot with a service weapon.

Serious question. What readjustments do you propose?
I, like many, saw a video where the argument can be made the officer was overly-aggressive. However, I also have the benefit of watching the video in hindsight, from the safety of my home. These guys had to react to a situation where the suspect was armed with a deadly weapon without the benefit of knowing the ultimate end to the encounter AND in a scenario where a split-second decision could be the difference between life and death. It's ALWAYS easy to Monday morning QB once you know the end result. But things are different in the heat of the moment.
I'm not saying there aren't bad cops out their who have a superiority complex about there job. But I can also understand the feeling of when you are called to respond to a situation where someone has a deadly weapon you err on the side of making whatever decision is necessary to ensure YOU walk away from the encounter alive.

There isn’t a major issue of cops lying outside of Baltimore. Sure, there are shitty cops everywhere, but there isn’t a major issue with lying.
And cops could never get certain demographics to support them by doing anything short of letting criminals freely pillage communities.

He came in like a hot head and escalated the situation which resulted in someone’s death. People get fired at their job for a hell of a lot less.

a new program in the works where officers would conduct a risk assessment of a household if police have been called more than a set number within a defined period of time.
See how well that worked out in Florida. You do something and you are a racist. You don't do anything and you are a racist. The person doesn't commit a crime and you are harassing an innocent man. They do commit a crime and you are negligent.
Seems like a lose/lose to me.

What a fricking joke.

A coked up criminal is a coked up criminal regardless of the perception of the community or the police.

Is that how anyone else sees this?
That's how I read it.

If Gary can threaten Whitney Bank with a protest and get $35k, I hope it works for people who actually deserve a little extra money.

Liberals would just say if Alton was white the cops would have never shot him
