So then why did it take a week to find them and why would that not be released as a suspected reason?

I'm not saying that's not a possibility, but this situation is fishy as hell to say the least. An accident like that happens in the USA, I don't see the Mexicans acting weird about it.

I would also think that because of those building codes they'd have O2 sensors more regularly?

The original story said it took Mexican authorities over a week to respond and that they had no idea what the cause of death was but no foul play was suspected.

If that has changed, then I'm glad.

But Carbon monoxide poisoning is not something you dick around with, if that killed the family then they were clearly airing out the condo and had some kind of an idea what happened unlike the original report.

It didn't, because nobody was looking for them.

They arrived on the 15th, and let friends/ family know they arrived safely.
They were supposed to be back on the 21st. When they didn't show up people realized that nobody had heard from them since they check in. They were reported missing on the 22nd and found that day in their condo.

They probably got their that night, exhausted from traveling and the first thing they did was probably put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door and go to sleep. I assume they passed away in their sleep that first night due to gas and just nobody thought to look until they didn't come home.

It was a condo, most condo rentals don't do daily housekeeping.

There were no signs of foul play or suicide, Quintana Roo state prosecutors said in a statement. Civil protection experts examined the condo’s gas installations and would issue their findings later, the statement said.

The bodies of Kevin Sharp, 41, his 38-year-old wife, Amy, and their children Sterling, 12, and Adrianna, 7, of Creston, Iowa, were discovered early on Friday by authorities in the small coastal resort on Akumal on the Yucatan Peninsula, about an hour from Cancun.

A spokeswoman for the state prosecutors office said officials could not comment on whether the owner of the condo could face any liability until after investigations were completed.

I mean....living life in fear is one way to do it. Not everyone shares that with you.

frick Mexico. I was in Puerto Vallarta a few years ago and used my credit card once...at a golf course. 3 weeks after I got home I got my card bill and there was almost 2 grand in charges at all kinds of places. So someone at the golf course had a little shopping spree. Thankfully my credit card wiped away all the charges.

And the stories about bartenders in Cancun spiking drinks with bad liquor, along with high crime everywhere, just make it very undesirable. Outside resorts, the place is very 3rd world. I'll never go back.
