I love my father-in-law. He's a good 'ol baw.
my FiL is in the Iron Order, wrote a book on a local Confederate Cemetery that's on amazon, shares my interest in home automation and treats us all to a week in florida every year at a very nice place including his *5* daughters and 2 sons.
i got no complaints.

I definitely lucked out in the in-law department. My husband did not, however.

I feel blessed in having pretty good in-laws.

My in laws were a pain and one day my wife said I had free rein to say whatever I wanted. I had bitten my tongue out of resoect for two years...after that day, they don't like me much, but they certainly aren't a problem anymore

My FIL and MIL while vaguely annoying have been 100% more of a parent to me than either of my biological parents.
My SIL and BIL are two co-dependent disrespectful pieces of shite I have no time for.
To say I’m a holiday alcoholic would be an understatement.

The wife will turn into the MIL.

My FIL is pretty cool. Really laid back. I get along with him pretty well.
My MIL Step-FIL, well this could take for ever. Don't care about family, extremely, over the top fake, crazy, jealous, cost my family thousands of dollars, and honestly wouldnt mind if they literally dropped off the face of the earth. But when they do care to come around 2 3 times a year if that ( they only live 45 mins away) they do pretend to like us, and smile in our faces.

My in laws are great people and are very religious... however, the only thing that we have in common is that we both love their daughter and their grandchild
It could be worse.. it could be better. Overall, I am thankful for them because I know it could be a lot worse.. I think that as a parent, you’ll always have a soft spot for the people who love your child/children... it isn’t always about me

Mine are great and may actually like me more than their daughter. FIL and I drink, fish and hang out watching football etc

Mine are wonderful and extensions of my own parents.

All in-laws are created different. I love my father-in-law. He's a good 'ol baw. Treats me well, respects my decisions as a husband and a man. Great relationship.
Mother-in-law is totally different. She's a blood sucking, mean spirited, negative, deplorable piece of human waste. I can't stand being around her for 5 mins. She's never wrong and criticizes our every move. I think she hates herself. Life without her would be better. I've tried talking sense into her, but it always ends up in an argument.
Anyone else have a difficult in-law to deal with? How'd you go about life with them?
Mine are great. My father-in-law is really easy to get along with and we have a lot of the same tastes in recreation and entertainment.
My mother-in-law is one of the sweetest, kindest and most thoughtful people I have ever met. She's one of those rare birds that enjoys doing nice things for people for no other reason than because it makes her feel good.
Both are very loving and supportive of us (as well as being the same towards my wife's siblings and their families) and give us as much space as we need (even with us living within 5-10 minutes from each other).
I truly lucked out on the In-Laws Lottery

MIL passed away. I miss her and she was a very good mom to me.
FIL is in England. Hes a nice guy. I get along with him. Wish I had more of a relationship with him, but he's too far away and he's one of those guys who loves his kids, but awkward around ppl.
Step FIL, lives two miles from me, we have seen him a few times since MIL passed. He's a drunk and a pos. Used to be a nice guy, but keystone light is more important to him.

I get along with them fine. Just don't give a shite what they say or when they try to tell us what to do. Literally in one ear and out the other.

Father-in law: Net worth of $4 million. So stingy that he orders for his wife at restaurants (on the rare occasion they ever go). Self-made man.
Mother-in-law: Practically a nun. Probably would have preferred to be a nun. Will probably give all of my father-in-law's money to the church if he goes first. Sweetest lady on the planet even though sometimes it's obvious she's not being genuine.

Both in-laws are way above average. Only a small run in or two with MIL, but that's over 25 years, so no issues whatsoever. In fact, I'd rather be around them than my own mother.(father is deceased).
Even with their being alumni, I get along with them well during football season, too.

In-Laws are all the same:
They always will look at you with suspicion, especially husbands. Are you providing enough financially. Are you providing her with enough time and love? Are you abusing daddy's little girl? Is he really good enough for my little girl?
This doesnt qualify for older generations as they were very different than todays. But if you are anywhere between 35 and 20 prepare to be put under the microscope like never before.
Edit to say that money is the key tk keeping in-laws happy.
If you are providing a good stable financial situation that protects your wife and kids future you could be a serial killer and they would adore you. They would defend your name until proven in a court of law out of fear of destroying a good thing for their daughter if you were found innocent.
If you were just a guy trying to make ends meet they would turn their back on you as fast as possible to hopefully encourage their little one to find a better suitor.
Downvote away. Reality is what it is.

My step-mother in law is a count. We moved to Houston for a job and they were the only family and people we knew here. We will have now lasted a single year here as we are already moving. She is a such a terrible person, we are moving solely because how miserable she makes both of our lives. Thank god we are young and can still move easily (and still find better jobs too).
