re: car accident stories

Father in law is a retired police officer. When he was on patrol back in the 90's he was called to a head on collision. One driver was behind the wheel without his head. His head was sitting on the back dash.

What's even weirder is the man that hit him was his brother.

We must be talking about different stories. This was in Memphis.

I've told it before but while working as a first responder, we went to a one car wreck. A guy was pulling his boat with his truck and went off the road and into a bean field and flipped them.

He seemed ok and was standing and coherent as he talked to us and the cops. But something wasn't quite right. There was this godawful smell and then sudden realization that this dude had pooped his pants. The kicker was that some of the poop ended up in his forehead.

We tried to politely and tactfully help him deal with it but he was in denial.

He was obviously drinking but his shitty pants proved to be a stroke of luck for him. None of the cops wanted to book him and drive him to jail. One cop was actually puking over the smell.

He also refused medical care (for which we were grateful, lol). he was afraid we were going to arrest him

He had to call a friend to pick him up. The friend made him ride in the bed of the truck.

Totaled my first truck when I was 16 while trying to win a $10 bet. Didin't even have it 6 months. Oddly though, the main thing I was worried about was the cigarette packs I left in it that my parents would find.

I flipped a long travel SUV a few times when an old lady pulled out in front of me. Harnesses pulled the bolts through their mounts.... Which were designed to fail at over 10Gs with a 300lb driver.

Broke a few vertebrae in my back, broke collarbone, dislocated right shoulder.

Crawled out of vehicle angrily shouting at the other driver. Blood pressure when EMS arrived was 200+ over 118.

I was standing there. They wanted me in ambulance stat. I wanted a cigarette. Firefighter on scene gave me a pull from a flask and a camel menthol. Caught a ride to the hospital and Xrays showed nothing. Got wildly drunk at pluckers. Next day got an MRI which showed spiderwebbed vertebrae and collarbone, torn pectoral, and they realized I had smacked my shoulder back in while climbing out.

Both biceps were bruised from holding my body in place after belts failed.

I have had a lot of dumb painful things happen, but the torn pectoral is easily the most painful thing.

Going down St. Charles at Valence, the street car was dinging it azz off, then I realized why. T-boned a '73 Cutlass trying to skate past the streetcar.
