Oklahoma teachers planning statewide strike

More than 25,000 people have joined the Facebook group “Oklahoma Teacher Walkout – The Time Is Now!” and a group of educators met Friday to discuss plans for the walkout, according to Tulsa’s KTUL.
“We are to the point where we have no other option,” one teacher told KTUL.
The teachers are frustrated with lawmakers’ lack of action on increasing teacher salaries. The state’s teachers are reportedly some of the lowest-paid in the nation, according to KTUL.

The proposed strike would come soon after a West Virginia teachers’ strike that has continued for seven days. Schools in 55 of the state’s counties remained closed on Friday, even though the teachers’ union had reached a deal with West Virginia Governor Jim Justice (R).
The Oklahoma teachers are considering striking during the first week of April, during standardized state testing. LINK

A lot of OK teachers have crossed the southern border to make more money... including their state "teacher of the year" recently.
When Texas public schools pay that much more, you know there's a problem.

Shut down the school system?!! Oh no, what shall we do without the free babysitting?! THE ECONOMY might collapse if moms have to stay with their kids for a few days.
Won’t someone think of THE ECONOMY?

Until teachers stop considering themselves to ALL be doing the "same" job.......this will never get solved.
Differential pay is the solution, but their unions would shite bricks

So they chose the wrong degree to make money. Tough shite. Learn to adapt. I did when I got laid off twice.
Sometimes you have to be willing to move to make more money. I have no sympathy for any employee paid by the state, county, city or federal government. That includes my sister who is also a teacher.

So is it the entire state or just Tulsa? My son goes to OKC public school and they go on spring break Friday for 2 weeks. They should do it then

I hope Louisiana teachers do follow suit. I, personally, will come to work, but the idiots in BR and NOLA should do it.

Used to live in OK and can NOT confirm that these actually exist.

$30k a year pay divided by 12 months comes to $2500 a month and teachers dont work 12 months a year, more like just 10 or less, so its really $3000 a month they earn.
i am not saying they are getting rich, but the average wage for blue collar workers is about that so there are definitely not working for minimum wages.
teachers having unions and going on strike is stupid.
as a teacher, if you do not want to work for what they pay, quit, its that simple. when they cant hire teachers they will offer more money, its called supply and demand.

frick em. I have land and a small business there in Oklahoma and it's the state's own damn fault. The reason the state has no tax revenue base for the schools is because they let the tribes buy up all of the land and then it gets put in trust and is non taxable.
The effective tax rates on citizens are in line with other "flyover" states but the large amount of non taxable entities don't generate enough revenue to allow for a raise.

Public school teachers in 2018 are borderline worthless and unnecessary. They should be replaced with robots.

Fire them all and outsource the public school system.
End property taxes.
