What would qualify one resource officer to go in without backup?
PD don't go in without backup.

Will be interesting once all the facts came out. People love throwing others under the bus and most, especially on here don’t care about facts. That Sheriiff has been a disgrace. I hope the video and radio feed of what that school resource officer did comes out. If I had to guess the Sheriff pretty much talked him into resigning. He may have been a bitch, but I can see during chaos he may have not understood where the shooter or in his mind possible multiple shooters were. Someone stated some witnesses have stated people were telling him shooters were outside also.

When you are standing just outside of a building, you can tell shots fired inside the building from those outside, especially when those outside the building aren't close by and they could not have been close by, otherwise he would have been shot at and/or seen the person firing. This is a total fabrication for him to save face.

That guy, and the three others that did nothing are 100% pussies.
Sounds good, we will ignore multiple people telling him shooters are outside, and one person is shot dead outside. Just admit you were there and already know the answers. I'm kidding bro, I'm just posting the other side of the story, there is always 2 sides. I like waiting for all the facts, that's just a quirk I have.

There is always the chance the deputy is just incompetent and not a pussy.
That's the annoying part of it.

This is correct. A fricking hardened navy seal isnt going to run in like some fricking banshee all willy nilly. He is useless doing so. Even he will assess the situation first to figure out wtf is going on
You are stupid.

You could probably even follow the stream of fleeing kids. They're running from that direction... maybe I should head that way.
Weren't the kids all locked down at that point?
It started as a fire drill so everyone was fleeing every direction. Then it locked down and no one was moving anywhere.
It was mayhem. And to top it off he was being told the shooter was outside on his radio.
Maybe he was a coward. Maybe he wasn't and his life is ruined unjustly now. Just wait for all the facts. Its not that hard.

Exactly. It doesn't take several minutes to pinpoint the source of gunfire. You could probably even follow the stream of fleeing kids. They're running from that direction... maybe I should head that way.

From now on, anytime there is a newsworthy event. I am going to wait about 3 weeks before even paying attention to any story that comes out, that is in relation to the event.
No you won't.

If I truly believe that I did my best at the time of the shooting, I would not have resigned. If he was told there was a shooter outside so he took a defensive position to get a better understanding of the situation but you must try to advance to the threat by all means necessary. You must advance. .

Depends on the department, but the recommended protocol for an active, mass shooter is to engage alone if you don't have back up immediately available.

I'm pretty sure I read that he was fully eligible for retirement. Maybe that helped make his decision easier.

Outside and where the officer was is completely different though, you understand that right? The resource officer was in the parking lot, in pretty sure the football field was behind the school or otherwise in another direction. It's not like the parking lot was between the two and he didn't know which direction to go, he literally just didn't move.
Most schools are long hallways, it's not like it was an open air mall where the shooter could be anywhere. You go into the building and follow the shots, follow the people running away. This wasn't a sniper in Afghanistan no one knew where he was.

What about being in close proximity to the sound of gunfire for 4+ minutes? The guy has admitted that his course of action was to seek cover and assess. That's his way of trying to cover his arse for not doing anything to engage the shooter until other LEO's arrived.

I thought it was in this link, but there is another website saying that a Coral Springs PD unit told Peterson they are hearing shots outside. You could probably google Scot Peterson deputy and narrow search to last 24 hours. There was actually a better website with more detail than one I posted but I saw it earlier at work computer and couldn't locate it again on phone.

Was he moving/helping kids outside? From what I understand he was basically posted up for 4 minutes or so. He may not have know where to go, but damn, you can't simply sit there.

this is false
LEO are now trained to engage immediately during an active shooter situation
