The average sewer fee in EBR is $49.37 per month

which is nearly 600 dollars a year. It increases 4% each January.
We also pay a half cent sales tax for the sewer system.
We are paying for a large settlement with the Feds for sewer, but I'm curious as to what other cities and counties of equal size pay. Is 49 plus a month low? High?
Also I keep hearing where La. as a whole pays low taxes, but EBR seems to be higher than most parishes and when you add in these fees, I'm not so sure where we compare to other counties and parishes.
Anyone have a source to compare individual counties/parishes?

I don't know where you're hearing this La is a heavily taxed state.

We either have the highest sales tax in the country or close to it.

We rank 45 out of 50 (in 2012) in overall taxes. I'm more anti tax than most but that's just not accurate.

I paid 18.23 last month in Dallas. It does go up depending on how much water I use.

Most studies show us to be low or in the middle, none have us high.
But in EBR where we pay more property taxes and sewer fees I'm wondering how we stack up to comparable counties/parishes.

Ours does too, I just provided the average per parish website.

EDIT: Ahh. Louisiana as a whole. Yeah, when you consider all the leeches who take and pay nothing, our tax rate is fairly low.

That's an old study. Since 2012 we raised taxes in La.

I'd imagine the rankings haven't changed much. I bet property taxes in Texas have gone up since 2012 too.

In EBR, sewer/water/garbage are grouped I believe.
I have noticed the sewer portion seems like it had almost doubled about 6 months or so ago.

In BR I pay about $85 for water/sewer and garbage combined. I actually paid more for all 3 in LP and they only picked up trash once per week and had no recycling.

Six years is a long time and when they raise sales tax to 10 percent that's big.
Then they raise sewer feed 4% for six years, that adds up.
Then they added more property taxes too plus reassessed properties were taxed higher.
A more react study had us 31.

I look at state and local taxes from multiple states everyday. I promise you La is a heavily taxed states. It doesn't have to do with just rates, it's what is subject to tax as well.

While Texas and Louisiana are very different in myriad ways, one thing that’s exactly the same is their tax burden. Both states have among the lowest tax burdens in the U.S., at 7.6%. They both, however, travel different paths to get there.
This is from 8/17. I'm not arguing that LA is a nicer place to live. It's mostly not compared to TX but the tax rates are almost identical. The zero state income tax is overplayed. You're just paying a bigger mortgage and property taxes are the absolute worst imo. It just means that you never really own your property.

I can choose how much property tax I want to pay. I want to pay zero? I rent (I know it's built in in a way, but rental prices in most of Texas are on par or less than similar markets). I can way more effectively manipulate my tax burden in a no state income tax state. In Louisiana the only way to lower your tax burden is to make less money, which seems less than ideal.

To each their own. The only tax I support is a sales tax. Everything else except maybe a gas tax for roads is bullshite. Crack dealers, illegals and people working for cash have to pay that too. And you can control how much you pay by your spending.
And yes, property taxes are included in your rent. The owner just isn't thinking "oh well, taxes went up so I guess I'll make less money this year".

So you can pick how expensive of a house to buy and there for how much property tax you pay.

Yeah but it's not near that simple. In Lehman's terms, I don't pay the value of my apartment in indirect property taxes. If I were to buy the apartment I live in instead of rent it the property tax I would then pay is a lot higher than the part that is theoretically built in to my rent.
