Accepting Mediocrity is the first step to irrelevance

This is a sentiment I've preached in my personal life to my kids, employees, friends, youth teams, and pretty much anyone who will listen. When you accept mediocrity, you set yourself up for irrelevance and ultimately, failure.
Too many fans are saying that those of us who want to compete for championships are "spoiled" and "whinny". My question to you is this, what in the hell is spoiled about wanting to compete for championships? What would you have us do, accept 8-4 seasons? Isn't that why we fired the last guy? By being OK with O going 8-4 you setting the program up for the big fall which could take a decade to rebuild. THAT is the problem with O as a head coach. He's under qualified and could do extreme damage to a program that, 4 years ago, was in the national title conversation EVERY frickING YEAR!
Now, do I believe O is accepting mediocrity? Of course not. I actually think the man is giving it his best. Unfortunately, his best is not good enough. All of the sudden LSU is surrounded by some of the best coaches in all of college football. They no longer just have to go through Saban. In the upcoming season alone they will face (arguably) 5 of the top 10 coaches in college football in Richt, Mullen, Smart, Saban, and Fisher. The jury is out on Moorhead, but I do think he may end up being really, really good.
Do you really want to O matching wits with the best coaches in football? I sure as hell don't. But you go ahead and accept mediocrity and see where the program ends up in the next fews years.

And constantly bitching on the internet equates to “not accepting mediocrity”?
That’s a load of BS. Stop buying tickets is the only way the fan can show the administration that they’re fed up. Anything else is just a waste of time and energy.

In one fell swoop 0 has taken expectations from an SEC Championship or National Championship to maybe 8-9 wins and only losing to Bama by less than three TDs.

So we should fire O right now????? And bring in who at this point?????

You confuse incessant whining with desire to compete for championships. You also confuse being positive with accepting mediocrity. I hope in teaching your children to not accept mediocrity, you also teach them not to whine and complain. Otherwise, you are raising brats.

Thought I'd give the Rant a try today and this is first thread I see. This place sucks.

Dude you live in Louisiana. Mediocrity is a goal, irrelevance is the norm. Just look around you.
Where is the superior? Education? Infrastructure? Health? Safety? Politics? Environment?
All this constant blabber about accepting mediocrity is pretty irrelevant.

Our baseball program survived Smoke Laval and it will survive Coach O.

Curious, just how do you know this? Admit it, you don't know jack about Orgeron or what he is capable of. You look at the surface and make a judgement without any knowledge of what you are talking about. As for me, no, I do not accept mediocrity. But I will admit, I do not know what he is able to do and will accept the fact that he is our coach and will wait to see the results. And by the way, you are in fantasy land if you think we were in title contention every year. Name the year besides 2011 we were in title contention. Are you counting the year when we were ranked 2nd in the first playoff poll and then lost 3 of the next four games.

I'm all ears if you have a better suggestion. I've done everything on my part to protest the status quo. It's not going to make a difference but I feel better.

This is where train goes off the track on here.
Not the first one of you know how true or untrue this is.
You can guess, speculate and ponder on it all day.
But fact is you don't know shite to be true.
Going to have to wait and see.

My question to you: Why should we listen to fans like you again? Isn't that what led to the firing of the last guy, and put the fate of our program in the hands of Alleva? It's time we stopped listening to the pessimists in our fan base and time we threw our support 100% behind this team and Coach O. Let's give this team a chance to succeed now; we can always make changes after the season, if needed.

I think the vast majority of us are unhappy with a lot that's happened from the initial HC hire process to the handling of Canada to the OC hire process to the way recruiting ended. It has been addressed and discussed ad nauseum. Yes there are others that try to paint a more unrealistic, rosy view of the state of the program. Some simply look for positives and some just want to talk football.
I'm sick of both extremes. I want to discuss players and the team, how they will integrate into the system, develop, changes to scheme we might expect and what to expect as the season progresses. I'm not interested in this discussion being done through the prism of one's feelings about the HC. Of course, he's a big factor, but not the only one. It doesn't have to devolve into a commentary on O.
I'm sure the BOS and admin are fully aware of the feelings of a large portion of the base and especially the big donors/boosters. TD does not need to drown out other discussion to express their displeasure. Anyway, if the season implodes you will be no factor in what the admin does. It's the results that will dictate change. Sorry to break it to you, but your opinion on the rant just isn't that important to them.

You tell em "coach". Now that you've given us this fountain burst of wisdom from on high
get your whiny arse back to the basement and play madden. Thats the only kind of football you and the rest of the clowns like you know anything about.

If you are not accepting mediocrity. What steps have you taken to not be accepting?
In all these life lessons you are teaching, what have you done specifically to change the mediocre? There must be quite a few things, given you preach this to everyone as you say.
What level of greatness have you achieved? Because if you have achieved greatness you should have the financial, social, and political clout to illicit change. Please let us know
I know whining in a message board isn’t the lesson, or is it?
Im all for whining on a message board. But I also know that 95% of humans are spectacularly average.
I get a kick out of average folks talking about greatness when they haven’t achieved anything great.

The LSU football program began the drive toward mediocrity and irrelevance the night of the 2012 BCSCG. Coach O is a symptom, not the cause, of the problem.
I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like the Tigers will have to look forward to a steady diet of Music City, Belk and *gasp* Independence Bowls for a long, long time.

I expect a better season next year and a better recruiting class. I don't know if Orgeron will be super successful here or not. If not, we'll have to let him go in a year or two. We can't fire him after one 9-4 season. That's not accepting mediocrity.
