I think Burger King must train employees to be slow and unpleasant.

Only $5-10k for startup costs though. The financial barrier to entry for a potential franchisee is essentially nil. No minimum net worth. The company pays for everything then leases it back to you.

CFA's entire business model is based on elevating customer service beyond the typical fast-food experience. It's a very simple concept (if not at all simple to implement), yet a very successful one.
As far as training people to say "please" and "thank you", I guess it does suggest that common courtesy isn't so common anymore. But I would be willing to bet that CFA's hiring process is heavily weighted towards people who already have decent manners and would require very little actual training to make it a habit. Unlike a lot of other chains, it's probably more about learning scripts with CFA's new hires than having to be taught basic politeness.

Yeah I quit going to BK years ago. Unfriendly workers are bad enough, but to never have food ready, no matter what the order, no matter the time of day, was annoying. Oh, you want chicken nuggets at lunchtime?! You’re gonna have to pull up and wait a while. We weren’t expecting to have to make nuggets today.

the popeyes on the corner of earhart and carrolton is the only fast food location i go to even semi-regularly and they have always been polite and smiling. Might be a unicorn location idk. Kind of a pain in the arse to get out of the parking lot though.

Arby's employees are openly hostile to customers.
Chickfila, the food tastes better than most fast food outlets, the stores are clean, and the employees don't outwardly hate my guts. Same with Cane's
Going to Popeye's is a crap shoot. I've been there when the service wasn't too bad. I've been there when there was only one employee taking orders and trying to fry the chicken, and you could tell he was contemplating ending it all by sticking his head in the fryer.

man i wish they would buy it, i would guess 90% everyone else does too
its actually 2 companies though (church's and popeye's merged when copeland went bankrupt years back) so im not sure if they have the money for that.

This is the underlying thing they have going for them. Minimal moving parts as far as actually preparing the food. They have like 3 things. This brings consistency in their product and allows them to focus a lot more on customer service. Their sales allow more labor hours. They have it down to a T

Things I have never experienced at a Chick-fil-A:
1. Workers who ask for my order, then as I start giving it, turn their attention to a sassy coworker who just told a funny joke. Subsequently, this forces me to either pause until their attention comes back to me, or to repeat my order altogether since they weren't paying attention.
2. Workers who can't be bothered to say "Hello. May I take your order?" Instead, they simply stare at you until you start giving your order.
There are countless other examples

I feel I get the same polite service almost every where. I wish CFA would add a 3rd option. The only 2 options are chicken sandwich or chicken sandwich.
