To the Aranda for HC folks

Besides being a great DC, what makes you believe he’d be a great head coach? Not charismatic, not a great recruiter, so what would make him fit to lead a big program?
For the record, I’d take him over O, but neither are qualified for the LSU HC job imo.

I agree about Aranda. Kiffin or Fleck for me!

Seems to have a Saban-like attention to detail, is hyper-focused on defense and would actually let a big time OC do his job. Also, he's young and we could catch him on the upswing in his career. It's a bit of an experiment, but worth the risk IMO. We know what experiment as failed already...

Sabans formula mixes that attention to detail with the best recruiting in The country

Aranda would have a process. 0 has processed food. So there’s that.

His high intelligence and ability to scheme don’t qualify him to be a HC? If Aranda switched to OC tomorrow, he’d be one of the top 5 in football.
The man is scary intelligent and has one of the highest football IQs in all of football.

Certainly no more of a risk than Orgeron

if i had to guess, most people are intrigued by his film commitment and his attention to details..........like another certain someone who has roamed the sidelines here before. not suggesting they're in the same stratosphere, but can see the reasons for optimism.

I could ask the same question of the people that want to hire Frank Wilson.

Not charismatic
This is not a qualification or a characteristic of a good or great HC.

not a great recruiter,
You don't know that.

Listen to him talk for any length and you can clearly see how intelligent and organized and detail oriented the guy is. Will this make him a great HC, no but it would be enough for me to give him a chance.

If there was a homerun candidate right now, I’d say get him but they’ve all been grabbed.
He’s young and seems like the complete opposite of O
He’s going somewhere to be a HC someday and will be a good one. If we make another dumb hire following O, we are going to lose him. I can’t see him working for two incompetent coaches in a row.

Correct. He's an incredibly organized coach who expects perfection. He's the ultimate professional and not swayed by politics or emotion. You also wouldn't have to worry about him hiring his buddies unless they were actually qualified to do the job and were the best options.
I'd be on board with his hire.

Because he is thought to be the best coach on the team and too keep him at LSU promoting him to head coach may be the only way. Although after his 1st loss we would be ready to buy out his ridiculous contract I'm sure he would get.

I've already said that we wouldn't know before hand...which would be the very same issue for promoting ANY well thought of coordinator at any level, right?
So if we are not going to find a PROVEN successful head coach (and that clearly was not a precedent when hiring Orgeron as anyone who can understand basic math knows) and we look to an up and coming coordinator, then arguably the best DC in the country would have to be on the short list...right?

Charismatic is overblown. Belechick is as charismatic as an ingrown toenail and Saban is not much more then that. From everything we hear from players they like and respect his knowledge for the game and that in itself is magnetic to someone wanting to learn and improve. Recruiting is important, but who knows how well he could close when running his own program with assistants that are themselves proven recruiters.

Orgeron certainly is not. We hired a coach with a sub .500 career coaching record to lead a program that has won 2 national titles since 2003 and played for a third. It's almost impossible to type that ou and still believe I'm awake. Aranda is qualified but unproven. Tons of prestigious program have and will continue to pull up coordinators to run their programs. No hire is fool proof...but you hire the best available coach and then see what happens. As Aranda is a Top 3 DC in the nation now, he's unquestionably qualified to run his own Power 5 program should that be the direction he want to go.

Does Aranda even recruit at all? I just never see him meeting with recruits like I do other coaches. I really don't know.
Posted on 2/9/18 at 7:32 am to Springlake Tiger
I agree. He's not exactly a proven commodity and the fact that he prefers to stay out of the spot light doesn't seem very head coach-like. I think a lot of people are assuming because he is such a good DC it will automatically translate over.
However, being that we are now "give him a chance" University and qualifications no longer matter, I would much prefer to give Aranda a chance than Orgeron.

I've never understood the Aranda HC talks. He falls into the same category as O for me. This is LSU, we shouldn't be settling for retreads that haven't been successful, and we shouldn't be settling for guys that have never been a head coach before.
Posted on 2/9/18 at 7:39 am to Springlake Tiger
He couldn't help close the deal on that 5* CB either. Who really knows.

Have you seen the linebackers we have signed since Aranda has been at LSU?
