Seems to have a Saban-like attention to detail, is hyper-focused on defense and would actually let a big time OC do his job. Also, he's young and we could catch him on the upswing in his career. It's a bit of an experiment, but worth the risk IMO. We know what experiment as failed already...

correct... these types of people are very rarely not successful...

The Billy Busch hire is something to take note of. The fact that O had no part in it and didn’t even comment on it tells you Aranda is amassing power inside the program. You couple that with his unprecedented contract and you can see why people are drawing the conclusion that he’s next in line. There are a lot of other signs that point to this but they’re not as solid and more speculatory than these two examples.

why would anyone want Kiffin as a HC? He failed at TN, failed at USC.

Coaches fail.... he at one time was the youngest head coach in NFL history. Yes, he failed at TEnn and USC but he was the head coach at both. He has won championships as the OC at Bama. He understands offense and paired with an Aranda type DC would be deadly. Plus it is obvious he likes to poke Saban and try and rattle that cage. I’m a gambling man and Kiffin has big time upside. Worth the risk!! Plus, the only job he has left to bolt for is Bama and when Saban retires he won’t let them offer the job to Kiffin so I’d say it’s safe to think he is looking for somewhere to build a winner.

He's very meticulous and has run a top defense at two different schools. That is important.

O is the exact opposite. He lies, hasn't run a successful program at two different schools in the toughest conference in the country. His highlight is beating Auburn this past season but that's it.

He falls into the same category as O for me.

what?

ed orgeron has never been a successful coach outside of a position coach while Aranda has proven he can lock down one side of the ball.

I'm with you.

he has failed at every HC job he has ever had. Being an OC for the most talented team in cfb, doesn't just make him a good HC.

imo anyway

Remember Mike Archer. That’s all you need to think about when pushing an untried coordinator as HC.

.but you hire the best available coach and then see what happens. As Aranda is a Top 3 DC in the nation now, he's unquestionably qualified to run his own Power 5 program should that be the direction he want to go.

Hiring a head coach from within does not always work. You get a guy who is friends with the entire staff that participates in normal employee small talk about the boss and then is promoted to be the boss. None of us know the relationships between these assistant coaches their dynamics.

Aranda may very well be the next Saban but hiring a 2nd coach in a row from within seems to be a questionable move.

Sad part is PJ would take this job in a second but our admin prob won't even consider him. I continue to be amazed at how lazy and incapable of thinking beyond Louisiana our admin is.
