My dream job would to work at the US Mint.
Regardless of how much I got actually paid I could always say I made a lot of money at work.
While U.S. Mint personnel do make a lot of money, it is all coinage. So dream bigger, my friend, and try to get a job at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Then you can really say you make a lot of money at work.

Money is going to be tight at 60K, just sayin. But you could pickup an odd job doing something you really liked and make up the difference or more.
and good luck

Potential pay at a job that I find mundane and boring: $150K-$200K.
Potential pay for doing a job I enjoy doing: $60-70K.
Which would you choose?
Same hours worked per week.

What does the 10 year and 20 year path look like?
Will promotions be available to you under path 1(with less education)
Don’t just think about the next couple years.

Somewhere in the middle is ideal, but if I had to pick I’d rather hate my job and get paid well.
I enjoy traveling, so I’d rather suffer through work but get to travel well and often.

Give me the higher pay. The whole "omgaw but I'm not happy" thing just makes me roll my eyes now. If you want to be happy, either do drugs or find a hobby.

This saddens me greatly.
Why is that? He's taken care of, and has an absolute blast. I don't know that he can ever have a family with that lifestyle, but at his age, it seems like that isn't on his wishlist. If bigbro wants to hit the powder and whitewater the rest of his life, I won't begrudge him a single thing.

The slogan...

The truth should be career you enjoy with low pay, but you can't buy things with enjoyment alone.

No, that part is awesome.

Career you like, in a field you like for 45-60k average
or
Career you know you won't enjoy but pay is 75-90k average.
The kicker here is shift work, which sucks in its own right. Can you live comfortably on 45-60k a year? Is there growth opportunity? Are you leaving school to take the lesser job? Need more info.
I left a job I loved for a job that is ok (not great not terrible) for a lot more money. It is a leaning scale between happiness and money.

Have been in both.
I would take breadcrumbs if it’s something I really enjoy. You can’t put a price on coming home to your family with peace in your heart. It’s worth more than any salary

I'd take the career that I don't really really enjoy, but pays well and offers me great flexibility and the ability to work from home.

For me, I'll take the job I enjoy any day, every day. About a quarter or more of your adult life is at work, the rest is spent worrying about it if you don't like your job.

I still have an uncut sheet of eight $1 bills from a BoE&P trip in 1987. I always wanted to hand it to a waiter or clerk and say "all I have is an EIGHT"
