At my first job (when I was about 15) there was a sign in the back room that said:
"Get your arse back to work or I will fire you".
This would have been mid 80's.

Not in a business setting, but when I was a kid, my dad coached HS football. One of his players was probably one of the hardest working guys I've ever seen when it came to sports. Somebody asked him why he never took a day off from the gym to which he replied, "Because my competition never does". Dude went on to be an all-state wrestler and then wrestled at Iowa

You're either teaching it to happen or allowing it to happen.

quote:
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.

Ask yourself: Am I a resource, or a consumer of resources?
Be a resource.
Be a resource.

At national sales meetings we eagerly awaited this motivational quote by the VP over sales:
"Anybody can pick the low hanging fruit."
Every meeting, every meeting. Over and over.

Are you an Eagle or a Buzzard?
An Eagle is usually successful on its first attempt when diving for food. A Buzzard always waits for another predator to make the kill and swoops in for scraps after the hard work has been done.
Eagle-like salespeople are prepared, thorough, effective and rarely fail when there is an opportunity to close. Buzzard-like salespeople are content to be a second source, just get an order rather than an account, or swoop in after somebody else creates interest and simply undercut them to get the business.
Buzzards are not salespeople, they are opportunists.
Eagles are the true professionals.

Not sure if this is 'motivational' but...I've always liked the "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission". Seems to get stuff done.
