No invite necessary for Usenet. There are many providers (I use supernews). Just pick one and sign up.

With Cox they would shut your browser down until you removed the torrent from your pc, so you put it on an ext hdd and back in business.
Whole lot of wtf here. Cox would have to install malware on your computer and monitor your filesystem, which would obviously be a huge privacy violation.

I think you misunderstood what happened.

It's not stealing, it's infringement.

And if you want to call someone a degenerate, maybe you should aim at the ISPs that treat their customers differently depending on whether or not they have competition in a particular location.

This isn't what happened with OP, but Cox has shut down my internet twice over torrents I downloaded and didn't realize were uploading. It was no big deal after I called them but the torrents have info in them showing they are tagged

And they did, trust me. Twice it happened. Their logo on screen asking me to remove the file from my computer. You got 3 warnings and your internet was cut off.

I don't know what you mean by "tagged", but if you are actively uploading a torrent then yes your ISP (or the copyright owner) can see that.

Perhaps you were still uploading the torrent? I am more than sure that Cox does not monitor your filesystem. If they were, it would be HUGE news. Like, stop the fricking presses, Cox is committing SEVERE privacy violations and bypassing your OS security measures. This would be NSA-level shite if users are unaware that this monitoring software was installed on their machines, and if it could somehow sneak past every virus scanner in the world then hackers could do the same. Every computer in the world would be riddled with malware. And I had Cox for years, so I know they don't ask and/or require you to manually install any software to use their service.

In short, what you think happened didn't really happen. Their logo on your screen was Cox redirecting all your requests to that warning page, which they CAN do from their end WITHOUT installing stuff on your machine that monitors your files. And they probably did that because they monitor common torrent ports and you were still torrenting.

Been through that. They shut you off the internet until you call and “agree” to remove the torrent. They even acknowledge they have no way of telling.

Any ways, you get caught enough in a certain time period and they will have to force you out.

1. VPNs aren't miracle pills to protect you.
2. Be smart, join a private tracker.
3. Don't seed anything you get from a public tracker ever.

I've been caught stealing
Once when I was 5
I enjoy stealing
It's just as simple as that
Well, it's just a simple fact
When I want something,
I don't want to pay for it
I walk right through the door
Walk right through the door
Hey all right!
If I get by, it's mine
Mine all mine!

Yeah. It's kind of an old song and Jane's Addiction wasn't exactly as famous as Pearl Jam. Didn't know how well the lyrics would be recognized.

You can't really find anything manually, you have to use an indexer, which is like a search engine for Usenet. There are free indexers, but you get better results with the paid ones. I actually ran my own personal indexer for a while, but it's a lot of trouble, needs tons of processing power, and the results are only as good as the free ones anyway.
