Do people eat raccoons or do people buy them for the hides? Anyone in the Zachary/BR area purchase them? We have them by the dozens at our lease. Big ol fat coons that eat our corn. Just seems like a good way to thin the herd and make a little cash to pay for the corn.

TIA

Not sure about selling them , but if you want to trap them, this is the way to go

Yes, people do eat coons, but you won't be able to sell enough to make it worth your while. Hides used to have moderate value, but I am not sure what they go for now either.

Honestly, it is going to be a hell of a lot of work for the money you would get out of it.

Coons hides bring almost nothing today sadly. There are a few fur companies that run routes across the south buying furs at feed stores and such. Two of the big ones are Groenewald and Kanokla.

I think coons bring a few dollars. Coyotes $15-25, foxes $15-$30 and bobcats up to $50

I have hunted my entire life but don't think I could trap. The picture of the coons with their little coon paws stuck in the trap makes me think of the ASPCA commercial with Sara Mclachlan. It makes me all sappy and shite, not sure why. Call me crazy, but I would rather shoot them from a distance.

Skinned coon is $7 each here in south ar, no matter if they are large or small. The hide isn't worth keeping. I could sell 100 right now if I had them as long as you leave one foot left on the skinned carcass. Blacks love them for Super Bowl parties around here and I usually have around 25-35 I sell them every year.

I used to shoot them and sell them across the tracks for $5 in the late 90’s.

A trapper couldn’t kill enough to feed supply in Bolton, MS a few years ago. Leave an paw on it for proof of animal. No idea if any of this is legal.

When I was a kid we hunted them with a dog and trapped them, we would take 2-300 to market and get an average of $15 - $18 for the hides.

You could probably go through certain parts of town with a truckload of dead coons and get $5 each. There will be several cooked on MLK day.

Can get $10 for the meat in North La. Hide is useless.

Trapped in the 70's. Made more trapping than my 8-5 job. This was what I was getting.
Coons-around $15
Gray Fox-$47
Red Fox-$55
Otter-$60
Bobcat-$100
Mink-$20
Would get up at 3:00 am to run traps. Be back at home before time to go to work. Come in from work and start skinning. It was work but worth it-I was young then. Had several $12,000-$15,000 years and it was part time trapping.
