The plot of that movie is a mess.
I believe all of the special effects were prepared first, then a room full of writers decided how to move from one special effects scene to the next, and we got “Last Jedi”.
Edit: One of the writers has a chunky Asian niece and did her a big favor.

You have Plot "A" that revolves around Rey/Ren (and Luke to some extent) that was actually really well done. I enjoyed it. Ridley and Driver are excellent actors/actresses.
Then you have the "B" plot that revolves around Rose/Finn and the "space chase" that is a fricking SJW train wreck.
Completely agree, although the "B" plot used a simple plot to keep the kiddie audience involved moreso than any political agenda.

The feminization of Star Wars is really stunning. I knew they were going to push the whole diversity thing,b ut I had no idea the degree to which they would vaganiacize the IP.
It's more than just having a female lead now, that alone isn't the issue.
They did a spin off movie, also female lead.
Evey single major leader of the rebellion is now female.
The squad leader of the fighter pilots? Yep, like a 20 year old chick. (the age is more stupid than the gender in this case).
Every single Star Wars related commercial I see on tv has young girls as the main actors and focus.
This is more than just them giving females more roles than before, it's clearly a concerted thing Disney has done ramped up to 11.

Maybe those actors just happened to be better than the white people you wanted to get the role. Or does that only apply when women/minorities complain because their simplistic brains are upset a protagonist doesn't share their pigment/junk?

The "B" plot was an absolute disaster without even getting into the obvious virtue signaling. Not to mention they completely destroyed Luke's character.

Well considering that in my lifetime it's been like 90% white males as the lead in any movie, I don't think it's that big of a deal. I'm very much looking forward to an age and era where it's kind of split down the middle. Pendulum swings to the outside very often though

You do realize the gender and race of a character are almost always decided before casting even begins right? It's usually sort of central to the story and plot to know those things, especially the gender.
When the original Star Wars movies didn't have many minorities, it was done more out of oversight than purposefully. The races of the actors never even was a thought in their head and they just ended up with white people.
That's clearly not the case now. There is a concerted effort to minimize white males and push women and minorities in these films. The filmmakers themselves have pretty much said as much, in a PC sort of way.
I have no problem with women and minorities earning their parts if they come up organically in the creative process. But it's clear there is no creative process at play beyond "We need chicks and minorities in this movie"
