Last year, day before big freeze we were loaded with ducks. Next night and day it stayed sub 32 and pond froze up.
Where do ducks go when this happens? Saw them on a big field that wind had kept from freezing up. Big lakes?

short term where ever they can eat.....
more that 2 days any unfrozen water - then feed and back and forth..
dabblers can't feed obviously in 3-4 feet of water...
divers can.....
its a very complex answer..

Puddlers will go to big water like lakes and the rivers close by. They will wait out a short freeze before looking for shallows and some will turn to dry feeding even in the south if it's cold enough or lasts long enough. Big thaws in rice fields are often good hunts.

They can fly many miles in a day. They move south.

In my opinion I would not hunt TX/LA during hard freeze unless I knew where they might go. I hunted the freeze last year, ducks find safe water and do not move.
