In Event of Moon Disaster

Letter Nixon was to read in the event the Apollo 11 lander couldn’t make it back up for some reason and they became stranded on the moon.

IN EVENT OF MOON DISASTER:
Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace.
These brave men, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, know that there is no hope for their recovery. But they also know that there is hope for mankind in their sacrifice.
These two men are laying down their lives in mankind's most noble goal: the search for truth and understanding.
They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by the nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown.
In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man.
In ancient days, men looked at the stars and saw their heroes in the constellations. In modern times, we do much the same, but our heroes are epic men of flesh and blood.
Others will follow, and surely find their way home. Man's search will not be denied. But these men were the first, and they will remain the foremost in our hearts.
For every human being who looks up at the moon in the nights to come will know that there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind.
PRIOR TO THE PRESIDENT'S STATEMENT:
The President should telephone each of the widows-to-be.
AFTER THE PRESIDENT'S STATEMENT, AT THE POINT WHEN NASA ENDS COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE MEN:
A clergyman should adopt the same procedure as a burial at sea, commending their souls to "the deepest of the deep," concluding with the Lord's Prayer.

Frick Nixon. Non-believer. Coward. Liar.

Pretty cool. I wonder how long they would have survived

Pretty awesome actually.
Glad they made it back home.
Glad they made it back home.

Ike had a D-Day Failed speech drafted too. He was most definitely not a coward. Overlord required massive testicles.
This really isn’t uncommon.

NASA’s way of communicating to the stranded astronauts: “This concludes our broadcast day.”

I can think of worse ways to die as there are so many pointless ways to die here on earth.

Would bodies decompose on the moon?

Nah. Don't think so

So by moon he meant a studio in Los Angeles?

Enjoy yourself for a bit, contemplate the world you are looking out on, then take off the helmet exposing yourself to near vacuum and you’d be gone pretty quick. I can think of worse ways to go.
I think they also carried cyanide tablets as well.

I think being in outer space as a pioneer in space travel would be my dream way of dying.
We all die.
What was the name of the first mate to Columbus? Or any of the dozens of men that died on the countless attempts at the new world?

Ehh I don’t think it would be as quick as you think. And definitely not painless. Your blood boils and you choke to death slowly as you are exposed to freezing temperatures and burning UV radiation. I think I would rather turn off my oxygen and go to sleep

If they had used them, would that have been a mortal sin? What about people who blew their brains out before Injuns could skin them alive?

Or freeze to death first, not sure if that would kill you before the boiling. I would it would take long though. I think vacuum knocks you out though pretty quickly so you aren’t conscious for the duration of the death anyways.

Interesting dilemma if you’re in that situation. Do you fight like hell to figure out why it’s not working, or do you take solace in your situation speaking to your family/nasa remembering the good times you shared.
