Lots of rumors, but this is the first legit report I’ve seen:

Former #LSU GM Austin Thomas will not be going to #Tennessee after all, per source. Title and responsibility standpoint didn't work out for him w/ the #Vols but am told it was very amicable and that it was just not the right fit and timing.

So does that mean he comes home or have we wiped our hands clean of him?

Well, LSU has an opening. He could throw his hat in the ring.

Did he actually leave?

Edit: I don’t think he would turn down Tennessee if it wasn’t established he could stay at LSU.

Aren’t these the types of things you work out, you know, before you accept the job? Otherwise what was this job offer?

Fulmer: Hey, Austin you want GM job?

Thomas: Sure.

Fulmer: Okay Great, see you Monday!

He refused to sign the MOU, which is what generally precedes a formal contract. I don't think he ever really accepted anything. They've been trying to work through the issues of his job title and responsibilities but couldn't. UT pitched him the same job he had at LSU but clearly couldn't fulfill that promise.

Correct. Don’t you negotiate the MOU before you accept the role though?

I get that. I guess I should have said don’t you do this before you quit your current job? Obviously you don’t need a final contract but some general idea of what your scope of work will be and pay should be ironed out before hand.

Right. Sciano had an MOU with Tenn but didnt resign as defensive coordinator for Ohio State. Tennessee is a cluster.

I'm not sure if he actually quit his job at LSU or not or what the details of his current contract are. Does he still have years left on his contract with LSU? If he did have years left and quit before he signed an MOU, then he has a bad agent or made a poor decision
