Gonna be interesting if O asks him back because he likely passed on some of those responsibilities to Derek as his official gofer.

Tennessee probably pulled the old bait and switch routine much like used car dealerships they promise you the world over the phone but tell you crap when you get at the location.

Here is some insight from Dandy Don’s sight. Thomas evidently wasn’t as big a deal as TD thought. Also not coming back to LSU.

Dandy Don this morning

quote:

Alright, here’s what I’ve gathered after speaking to a source on the LSU side. Thomas was making about $125,000 at LSU with bonuses and contracts that brought his annual income up significantly, but evidently he felt he was under-valued and bolted for Tennessee. Reading between the lines, this had less to do with wanting to return home than I originally thought. Now there are reports that things did not work out for Thomas in Knoxville and he will not be joining the Volunteers’ staff. As for your question about whether he’s coming back to LSU, let me just say this: My source said that reports of Thomas being a “star recruiter” and a vital component in LSU’s recruiting efforts were grossly exaggerated. In fact, he said he got a good laugh when he read a report that gave Thomas credit for recruiting Leonard Fournette. Bottom line: I wasn’t told this specifically, but I got the impression that Thomas’ bridge to LSU has been burned. Remember, Thomas left LSU once before and then returned to Baton Rouge after a short stint with USC. I would be surprised to see it happen a second time. As for whether Thomas tried to steer Traore to Tennessee, my source could not confirm that. If, in fact, Thomas won’t be a part of Tennessee’s staff, then I’d like to think any attempt Thomas might have made to recruit for Tennessee would be less effective anyway.

With Pete Jenkins retiring he would no longer be used as a recruiter.

Nailed it crew. Why pay him more if his job responsibilities have diminished?

Seems as though Austin got too big for his britches, and now will be taking a major step back career wise. I’m sure his wife is happy. Maybe there is an opening for a high school “team manager”

Seems like we read here that he is/was still instrumental at film review and talent evaluation of recruits, and even if he couldn't actively recruit with Pete leaving, couldn't he still be involved in campus visits?

Having experienced this tactic being used in the business world, is it possible that UTe just made promises to him they had no intention of following through on just to jack with LSU at crunch time, knowing he'd listen given his connections to the area?

Do you honestly believe even for a second after watching the sh!t show that was the Tenn search for a HC that they had the time, interest or skill necessary to plan and execute a “fake” hire of AT just to screw with LSU?

Seriously?

Pretty clear it was UT being UT

That said good for AT holding to his guns. That said it supports him over valuing his services. Curious where he lands.

I keep hearing how valuable he is, but nobody can say what all he does.

Seems like he is just some mythical rant figure like the secret playbook

If he wants assistant type money without the pressure of being responsible as an on field coach than LSU would be overpaying for his position.
He's never going to be happy.
He left for USC
He left for Tenn
He does not want to be at LSU long term.
Let him go!
