Gotta admit I've been kind of manic on this one. It was a terrible loss, then find out he's not taking the job and wanting him back to now being not so sure.

If Scott's insiders say Thomas' value was overblown and he's burned bridges then move on. I can't blame Thomas for wanting to go home, but it also seems like he's gotten a little too big for his britches and that's his own undoing.

I know O values loyalty and Thomas may have finally broken that trust. It may be a good time to go ahead and look at other options.

I agree, but the Dandy Don article was clearly a smear job from inside the football program. For two years the staff and local media have felated Thomas for his importance to LSU—Orgeron even saying he was indispensable. Suddenly he’s a joke.

Apparently his latest exit didn’t sit well with Orgeron, otherwise he’d probably be back already.

Did he ever resign? This stuff is all so public, I mean, my guess is that he hasn't even left his current position yet.

Austin Thomas is like a good secretary. Incredibly useful when you have one, hard to do without once you become used to it, and becomes seen as integral over time. At the end of the day they are a secretary and do secreterial tasks, but it is nice to have someone you can count on to make sure the calendar is updated and the filing gets done.

The problem with any good secretary is when they become too big for their britches--and we've all seen it. They believe that because they are really good at the tasks they are charged with and because their boss has come to rely on them taking care of the things they are charged with, they believe they are more important than they are. At the end of the day, what they do is administrative and not integral.

I think we are seeing the same overblowing here. Thomas was very valuable based on what he did. It would have sucked having to find someone else to take over what his role was. What he did, however, is replicatable with any number of persons. Thomas apparently believed he was more integral than he actually is and overplayed his hand. Now LSU has some leverage should he want to return.

There isn't a head coach anywhere that would agree to those terms. And rightfully so.

If this is accurate, Thomas is out of line even requesting this.

So not following this super closely, any chance in hell Thomas will just come back? I read what type of role he was requesting at UT and that's pretty laughable. Perhaps he read too many of his own headlines......or just read the rant.

He isn't out of line for requesting it, he was very naive to think he had any shot of getting it.

My source said that reports of Thomas being a “star recruiter” and a vital component in LSU’s recruiting efforts were grossly exaggerated. In fact, he said he got a good laugh when he read a report that gave Thomas credit for recruiting Leonard Fournette. Bottom line: I wasn’t told this specifically, but I got the impression that Thomas’ bridge to LSU has been burned

This source sounds like he has an ego.

I disagree.

Thomas certainly knows that if the AD gave him this authority over the coaching staff it would, at best, severely limit the type of head coach the university would be able to hire down the line.

Also, just think of the friction this would have immediately created with Pruitt.

I think Thomas is smart enough to know that this would have been a bad move for the program both short and long term.

This would not surprise me at all. The fact that Sexton is his agent makes this probable imo. He definitely wont get the autonomy he is looking for at Bama but if he is looking for pay and a one or two year stop to spring him to the NFL, this is the spot.

All I know about the situation is what I see on here.

However, from what I have seen, when people in these types of "upper management" positions leave for another job, they usually don't get asked to come back.

Thomas has already defied those odds once so I really don't see it happening again.
