Fan base perception of Dabo - sound familiar?

In SC visiting in-laws, my wife's BIL is a longtime Clemson fan. Said people originally wanted to fire Dabo early on: just a cheerleader, assistants doing all the "real" coaching, etc.
Not sure how we'll turn out, but this surely sounds familiar.
(Told him I hope they beat Bama again.)
GEAUX TIGERS!

Just curious but was Dabo known as one of the worst head coaches in ACC history when he was hired?

It is a fair analogy. I think history has shown many of these feel good interim/hire from within hires typically flame out fairly quickly after the honeymoon is over.
Dabo has proven to be one of the exceptions. And his manner and personality is similar to O's.
So yes, the hope is O can do the same. I certainly hope so.

Doubtful. They won their division his first full year.
Then went 6-6 in 2010 with 5 or the 6 losses being by 10 or less including by 3 to AU with Cam who won the NC.
Then went 10-3. Then went on and got his recruits in place.
Dabo had to rebuild that team in terms of recruiting because of the shite show that was Bowden.
Plus Clemson had not won a NC in years unlike LSU having 2 in the previous 15.

Dabo had such a proven history at his previous HC gig

Their backgrounds couldn’t be more dissimilar.
Dabo played and won a national Championship for the most storied program in CFB. He had never been a HC and was 38 when he took over a program that hadn’t won a conference title in 20 years.
O played at Natchitoches, had one of the worst tenures as HC in Ole Miss history, and at 56 took over a program that won the SEC five years earlier and won four in the past 15 years and won two NCs and played for another.
One of the hires at least made some sense. One didn’t.

If u put that shite show of a situation just on O then u haven’t done any research. He was destined to fail out the gates.

quote:No. The Dabo hire made zero sense to pretty much everyone other than Terry Don Phillips. Promoted a 38 year old wide receiver coach with no head/coordinator experience. A hire with that resume at ANY point in LSU history (post Hallman, Dinardo etc.) would have been seen as a colossally disastrous bungling hire made by an incompetent AD.

I agree, I said their manner and personalities were similar, not their backgrounds.

No. That’s why the analogy is flawed.

Which was which and why?

Not possible considering Dabo had never been a HC before which isnt better is it?

Remember when LSU hired a head coach who had not had any real success? Every one wanted to get behind him, recruiting seemed fine, he was an LSU guy, one of us. By all accounts an overall good dude.
But then the team looked like shite more often than not and ended up being fired. It was a lazy hire by Alleva.
Sound familiar?

People that say look at Ole Miss I guess don't know anything about college football past 5 years ago. Ole Miss is a s******* when it comes to football. The only way they can be competitive is to pay people to go there. And for the ones who say LSU was a championship program when O took over are delusional. LSU did not finish in the top 10 since 2011. You let that sad fact sink in for a little while

Well, Dabo is 1-1 vs Saban while Coach O is 0-2 while averaging 5pts a game vs Saban

Yea you kind of have a point but Ed O had already been a HC and failed. That's why everyone disliked this hire

Keep the same rosters for both teams and swap quarterbacks and the results are likely reversed.
