Resident dental experts. Over the night on Saturday I must have been grinding my teeth as I woke up to a throbbing pain in my back molar. It is setoff more due to biting on the tooth (other directions don't hurt). It has seemingly gotten worse and the earliest my dentist could see me is Wednesday. They dentist office is closed on Mondays so my request for a prescription for pain has not been heard yet.
I was told that Ibuprofen is the best for tooth pain, but this is agonizing. Is there a specific dosage that I can take? I was told that 12 in 24 hours was the max but it doesnt take more than 4 hours before it starts throbbing again. What should I be asking the doc for to get me through the next 32 hours?

Oragel as needed to numb it. Along with max dosage of Aleve or similar. Add ice if needed for pain relief.
If all that sounds like too much to hold you off until your doc appt, take a 5mg tab or similar and sleep it off.
If you're hungry enough, you'll find a way to nourish yourself.

Had a bad tooth where the only thing that helped was drinking and swishing cool water. Went through 3 cases a day until my root canal. I would get up to piss, and just stay in the bathroom because I knew I’d piss again in 2-3 mins. Probably did wonders for my kidneys.

A liver and kidney healthy adult can have 3200 mg, or 16 ibuprofen tablets in 24 hours.
ETA pain upon biting is a hallmark sign of a crown fracture. It’s peobably deep enough into the tooth that the nerve is now angry and firing off at spontaneous times.
ETA2 I am a dentist FWIW

Went through a bad tooth a few months back. The old school brown listerine would help immediately. Swish it and hold it on the side of the bad tooth as long as possible. Pretty much instant relief. I would follow up with 2 Stanback or Goody powders. Best regimen I could find until the dentist could see me.

So if it is constant throbbing and if I bite down on it, it is much more painful, is that still sound like that?
If so what’s treatment?

I’ve gotten RXs for ibuprofen 600 and 800 mg from docs. Dentist gives 800. That’s 4 over the counter 200mg tablets.

I've only had one bad toothache and it was HORRIBLE and happened on a Friday and couldn't get in to see the dentist until Sunday AM. I didn't have any real pain meds BUT drinking and holding ice water completely irradicated the pain for a few minutes so I drank gallons over the two days. I got zero sleep from Friday to Sunday morning but I only had mild suffering. One would think cold water would be super painful but it got me through those two days without putting a gun to my head.

You'll have a cracked tooth/abscess. I foresee a root canal, crown, opioids, sleep in your future. That will be $350 dollars.

Way more than that
