Yet the potential app Disney is making, which they said was in the works even before this merger, would be amazing. They'd have the Marvel films, the Disney library, Touchstone, 20th Century Fox film, Fox Searchlight, Miramax, Fox and ABC networks, FS regional sports, NHL/MLB streaming, and probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting.
This is potentially the best TV/movie back catalog app ever made.
This is going to be a major disaster for fans of MLB, NBA, and the NHL. Im a Braves, Hawks, and Preds fan, so I watch their games on Fox Sports South, and if ESPN/Disney takes over, this could be a game changer for the worse.
I could give two shits if X-Men and Avengers are in the same universe.

I'd be ok if they kept the X-Men under the 20th Century Fox label and everything else under Marvel Studios. The Fantastic 4 in the Avengers universe they set up would be great and couldn't come at a better time.

Exactly....this is so much bigger than the xmen going back to the MCU. I don't understand why so many people are getting excited about this.

Yep, Disney/ESPN is about to have a monopoly on baseball, and other sports will follow.
That doesnt even get into the streaming services. Disney will now own close to 65-70% of Hulu, so they are going to dominate that part of media, and set that bar. Guess what other streaming service they will own...MLB TV.
Taking over another major movie studio? Those 20-25 movies that Fox and its subsidiaries put out each year? How many of them will be cut?
Fox Animation? Thats probably gone.
There are 4 superhero movies coming out from Fox in the next two years. Thats going to be cut down. You know they arent going to over saturate the market now that they own everything.
What happens to Scott Free Productions and their partnership with Fox?
Regency is under Fox. They've made The Revenant, 12 Years a Slave, The Big Short, Birdman, etc in the past few years. What does Disney do to them?
Thats just a tip of the iceberg with the problems with Disney taking over everything.
But hey, Dr Doom could be the villain in Avengers 6, and thats all that matters.

Can someone explain to me how Disney would acquire MLB and NHL streaming? I thought that MLB had wizards that built MLB.tv which is owned by MLB and serves as the basis for NHLs streaming system. I didn't realize that Fox bought this from MLB...

Disney already owns part of MLBAM, BAMTV. If they take over Fox's stake in MLB baseball, they will also take Fox's streaming rights to games.
So basically MLB TV and NHL are fricked.

You might want to look at the ratings for this past MLB, and the current NBA seasons.

Calm down....it doesn’t matter if people are excited over the possibilities of this or hate it, it has no bearing on whether or not the deal gets done

Forbes: A Disney-Fox Deal Means Far More Than Just 'X-Men' Joining Marvel
quote:
Walt Disney is currently running up 18% of the total domestic box office as Fox now makes up 12% of the 2017 North American theatrical market. While Disney is now behind Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc. in domestic market share, it’s close enough that The Last Jedi should put it over the top. Very rough math, but just $650 million domestic for Star Wars alone plus left-over money for Coco and Thor: Ragnarok should push Disney over $2.5 billion for the year as WB hopes to get to $2.1b.
Last year, Walt Disney had a jaw-dropping 26% of said business while Fox had 13%. With Fox and Disney combined into one entity, it’s not remotely implausible to see Walt Disney’s theatrical output controlling close to 40% of the theatrical business. With that kind of hold, the Mouse House could essentially rewrite the rules for how their movies are seen in theaters (higher ticket prices, higher percentages back to the studios, exclusive auditorium control, etc.) in a way that wouldn’t remotely help the likes of Universal or Warner Bros.
quote:
but what do you think the owners of Fox News are going to do with lots more money on hand and an explicit devotion to news and media? It’s not Disney’s responsibility to make sure that its money doesn’t go toward evil, but the powers behind Fox News having more money and more free time to devote to media and politics is not going to be good for media and politics. But at least Captain America can punch Dr. Doom.

But don't you want to see Wolverine and Cap exchange quips??

Going to need to remember that line.

My son has 2 very similar posters in his room purchased about 2 years apart. The one purchased most recently has no X-Men or FF.

Some sites are saying that the deal has gone through. But they're just quoting the article in the OP link from CNBC that says "possibly next week".
If I had Fox stock, I'd be anxious too.

Some of the best comic storylines were when X-Men intersected with Avengers.

Comcast dropped out of the bidding, sounds like this deal is now imminent
