Les Miles never cratered like Jimbo Fisher

For all those who weep in the dark over losing Jimbo Fisher to the Saggies, just remember that Les Miles, who never really developed a QB never had a season like Jimbo's FSU team did.
Having to reschedule a cupcake to become bowl eligible is embarrassing. 6-6 is not good.
What happened to the FSU defense? FSU has very good running backs, what happened to the offense?
No, keep Jimbo and pay him all the money he wants, just make sure that he works for somebody other than LSU.

In 08, Miles had to start a guy who didn’t start at Harvard and then 2 freshman QBs.
I think Jimbobis burnt out. I can’t say I blame him. Add 75 Million guaranteed, what motivation does he have.

I'm not upset we didn't get Jimbo, as much as I am thrilled Miles is gone.

Whatever else Miles may have done or not done, it's indisputable that he kept the program's basement at a high level.
That's a big part of his undoing, and something that plays into the Ed O acceptance right now...
Once it became clear that Miles would never win less than 8 games, we saw that as terrible (the worst it could get). And so seasons where he won 9, 10 games weren't successes, they were only 1-2 games above failure. Instead of seeing consistency, we saw a team barely performing above it's minimum.
Orgeron had a bad record coming in, and he reminded us of disaster by getting smoked by Miss St and losing to Troy. So when he beat Auburn and played Alabama reasonably well, that was achieving at a relatively high level. A 9-3 season is seen as a success because he exceeded his potential basement by quite a bit.
I say that without attacking O; but it is part of the dynamics in play.

Jimbo lost his team this year. He may have lost his edge. Glad he is not here.

I don't know how the grass will be greener in the land of brown burnt grass, that is College Station, TX. for Jimbo.
Florida is the BEST recruiting area of the country. It's better than TX and better than CA.
I wonder if the Saggies will go for 6-6 from Jimbo.

To be fair in 2008, Les Miles went 7-5 in the regular season. I do agree that Fisher is not worth $7.5 million/year

Jimbo had a single season with 2 losses or less without Jameis at QB. Other than that, 3 to 4 losses was the norm. Does that sound like its worth $7.5MM/yr?

Only because he had to kick our true starting QB off the team.

Not to mention that you cannot walk on the brown burnt grass. Hope he enjoys that wasteland.

Jimbo was considered a developer of quarterbacks.
I wonder which one they are talking about. He coached several talented quarterbacks, but the only one that showed significant improvement was Matt Mauck. The rest were pretty much the same player from day 1 till they finished their career. Matt Flynn's major improvement came under Crowton.

Amen. I never understood the hype. Never cared for Jimmy.

No. He's a good coach, but not GREAT.

Jimbo Fisher would never have went undefeated in the SEC with Jordan Jefferson as QB

This really is the truth, and people seem to be giving Jimbo a pass for this season. I can not think of any elite coach that has managed to tank like this, particularly at a school they won a NC at.
Imagine if Ohio State or Alabama lost their starting QB, and ended up at 6-6. I can't even fathom that, honestly.

I agree Jimbo lost his edge -- at Florida State.
I think a change of scenery will invigorate him.

It is especially alarming considering all the Jimbo worshippers on here that call him a QB guru. Surely a guy like that would have another QB ready, right?

One would think so. But it's not even just the QB. The defense and both lines looked terrible, despite most being highly sought after recruits.

Elite coaches don't go 6-6 in year 8 when ranked in the preseason as #3.
The fact that this guy just signed the most lucrative contract in CFB history
Is there any doubt that this thing ends badly?

The Aggies.

The worst Les Miles ever did at LSU was 8-5 (3-5). This was a year removed from a national championship and the suspension of the presumed starting QB. Hard to even hold that against him.
