Saban in July: If we lose two games, win the SEC and don't make the playoff, I understand

Saban said he realizes it's also a gamble when it comes to the playoff.
"If we lose two games this year and still win the SEC and don't get in the playoff, I understand how it works," he said. "There will probably be more teams that lost one game or no games, who will have a better opportunity to get in than we will. I'm not saying I'm going to be happy about that, but I understand that. I get that. But if it goes based on strength of schedule and how many good teams you beat, then that is the best way to pick the teams to be in the playoff."

So he agreed back then that Ohio State should be in essentially?

By those comments alone Bama shouldn’t be in. Their best win was against 9-3 LSU.

He clearly meant that if the Committee is basing the selections of SOS, that he would understand Alabama being left out as a 2 loss SEC Champ.

Exactly.
How y'all be hating this honest and moral man?

Sabans scenario involves not losing to unranked teams or losing by 31. Those things don't compute to him because he hasn't lost to an unranked team since 2007 and he hasn't lost by more than 14 at Alabama.

Seems to me that in July he called it. Said a two loss conference champ could get left out. Sorry, Ohio State.

Parts of that quote favor each team. The first part is for Alabama, the last sentence is for Ohio State.

Bama “Lasts”
Lost to a team that finished unranked: 2007
Last 2 times to lose by double digits: 2017, 2014
Lost by 30 points or more: 1998
Lost by 30 points or more to a team that finished unranked: 1916
Ohio State “Lasts”
All of the Above: 2017

I think so. Even when we went 0-10 in 1955,the largest margin was 26 to a top 10 Auburn.

No, that’s not at all what he said. Just the opposite.

Since we're doing Bama "lasts"
Last lost at least 8 games. 2003
Ohio State last lost at least 8 games.
NEVER

I've been trying to find a strength of schedule ranking for the top 10, anyone know it
Posted on 12/4/17 at 6:37 am to Bench McElroy
He understands because Saban lobbied for his non conference winning team to be in before and it was allowed.

That was a tough year. Heavily hit by sanctions. Fran left after the previous season and a few guys transferred out. Had to find a new coach in August because Mike Price couldn't pay a stripper with cash. Then our QB had to play most of the season injured.

Until it isn't, right Nick?

He basically said the exact opposite of that:
quote:
"If we lose two games this year and still win the SEC and don't get in the playoff, I understand how it works,"

OSU lost twice. How hard is this to understand?
