The HRRR is typically pretty damn good short range. Read the LIX discussion from this afternoon and they mention it as one of the competing solutions. I believe the moisture it's producing with a slowly strengthening low down in the gulf, it's really a question of how well it handles our "warm nose".
I do think if we do start getting frozen stuff overnight, the highs for tomorrow are probably overdone as the ice will push the surface temps down to or below freezing.
Makes for an interesting night tonight.

Accurate. Models didn't show this happening this early.

All a matter of waiting for the precip to really get going. That'll signal the cold punch is rolling on in and squeezing a little heat out of the atmosphere. It doesn't look like we'll get much wet bulb help from model soundings, going to be all a game of getting that mid-level part of the column cooled off enough from cold air blowing in. (ETA: Flurries in Austin right now a good sign)
Wish I had a couple weather balloons of my own to send up.
And in terms of our local TV mets, I really only listen to Steve Caparotta on WAFB.

Steve is the best in the baton Rouge area, although Jay is not far behind. I just like how Steve breaks it down for you with regards to the weather.

The HRRR has a bit of a cold bias and can be too fast with change over from rain to snow. It also trends to linger precipitation too long in these setups.
If I lived down there these would be my concerns:
-elevated warm layer, models always struggle with this and someone between BR and New Orleans will probably get screwed
- surface temps, HRRR and NAM 3k are plenty cold for accumulation but the Euro and GFS are warmer (GFS is warmest), accumulations will be limited if surface temps bust warm
- timing of precipitation, if precipitation ends sooner than expected then some areas that the models show getting snow could be shut out and amounts reduced elsewhere
Overall, areas north of I12 look good with Kentwood being the spot I would setup for a chase. BR is tricky based on above and 3" wouldn't surprise me anymore than a bust.

It actually is sticking on the grass in some areas now. Not on the roads though
