The hits keep coming. I'm as Back the Blue as they come, but BRPD is struggling to keep itself out of the headlines.
Just a few very recent BRPD incidents:
Two BRPD Officers Suspended For Racist Statements (One Black, One White)
BRPD Officer Arrested For Stealing Confiscated Weed
BRPD Officer Accused of Having Sex On Duty
On-Duty BRPD Officer in Unmarked Car Strikes and Kills Pedestrian
Off-Duty BRPD Officer Involved in Fatal Airline Highway Crash

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Four members of the Baton Rouge police department have been placed on paid administrative leave while they are being investigated for possible payroll fraud, two sources close to the case said Friday.
The accused include at least two BRPD sergeants and one who holds the high-ranking title of lieutenant, one source said. The investigation has been underway for several weeks.
In some cases, the officers were believed to have been at home while they claimed on their timesheets that they were working, one source said.
“Some of these are serious cases involving a large number of hours,” the source said. “We could have officers being arrested because of this.”
BRPD spokesman Sergeant L’Jean Mckneely would not provide specific details early Friday afternoon and did not release the names of the lawmen.
“The investigation is ongoing and we aren't at liberty to discuss specifics because we aren't sure if policy violations have occurred,” Mckneely said. “If policy violations did occur, we will discuss them at the conclusion of the investigation.”
Mckneely said a total of nine officers across BRPD are currently on paid administrative leave for various reasons. He would not confirm how many of those officers are tied to the current payroll probe.

And early retirement based off of $250k salaries when they were making $65k base.

SW Broome has lost control of the BRPD!
She needs to resign now or we march. Or make a coalition. Or boycott Krispy Kreme.

This can't be true. The OT has told me numerous times that cops get paid next to nothing.

They do get paid next to nothing if you factor in the amount of hours they have to work to break $100k.

You mean almost $200k? Also in Baton Rouge

i hope they arrest that group of BRPD guys who retired recently who were doing this. There was a thread about the guy who was heading all the DWI Checkpoints the past 5 years was billing time where he was working almost 20 hrs a day for the whole year.

I'm a victim of the BRPD DWI task force. They took about 10k from me while the officers involved lined their pockets.
Of course I shouldn't have been driving drunk, but still, how much money are taxpayers spending so that these crooked fricks can retire better than any of us?
And cops wonder why people hate them.

They stole $10k from you, or it cost you $10k in legal defenses?

Bet it’s linked the the DWI Task Force

This has been going on forever. I'm glad they're starting to crack down on it. Officers are billing 40-60 hours of overtime per week FOR YEARS at a time! They need to raise the base salary, place a serious cap on OT hours, and monitor the system strictly to guard against abuse.

This stuff is absurd, it's rampant, and I'd wager most officers are aware this has been happening. They simply turn their backs.

This is what happens when you have a race baiting administration in charge that despises the police and does everything they can to handcuff them.
You're not going to get the best and brightest and are reduced to scraping at the bottom of the barrel to hire more officers.

Well at what most officers get paid, and by that i mean, 20 years and under, it’s not hard to understand why some of them start trying to work the system.
If there was an actual selling point for men and women with college degrees to come do the job and not make crap the first few years of doing the job, the department would actually get a bunch of great officers.
But when the same guy with the degree can go get a plant job and start at 80k+ a year, why would anyone out of college ever want to be a police officer?
